Bernie Sanders has responded to RFK Jr.’s recommendation asking Americans to buy liver instead of steak. The 84-year-old senator criticized the Secretary of Health and Human Services’ suggestion. He said many families are struggling to afford basic needs, let alone steak.
Bernie criticized Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over comments about affordable meat options
On July 30, TMZ’s Charlie Cotton spoke with the senator from Vermont on Capitol Hill. He asked about President Donald Trump’s Health and Human Services secretary advising families to consider liver or less expensive cuts of meat amid rising beef prices.
To which Sanders aimed at the POTUS, claiming his second-term policies have favored wealthy supporters at the expense of working families. He said many working families are having trouble paying for basic needs, including good food, while wealthy people are getting richer.
During a February event hosted by MAHA Action, RFK Jr. shared his comments. The 72-year-old said, as per The Hill, “If you buy, you know, a porterhouse steak, it’s going to, it is going to take you back. You can buy liver or the cheaper cuts of steak that are very, very affordable.”
The advice aligns with Kennedy’s Make America Healthy Again initiative, which encourages Americans to eat more natural foods and avoid highly processed products. However, Sanders argues that families need financial relief, not just changes to their diets.
Speaking to USA Today, Kennedy described steaks, meat, and fish as his cooking specialties. He also mentioned eggs, bacon, hamburgers, and cheeseburgers among the dishes he prepares. Kennedy said he believes cooking is becoming a lost art.
The exchange adds another public clash between Sanders and Kennedy as debates over food costs and health policy continue to play out in Washington.
