Earth, Wind & Fire Drummer Hospitalized After Sudden Medical Scare — Source

John Paris is the Earth, Wind & Fire member who was hospitalized.  His medical emergency forced the band to postpone a San Francisco show

A packed arena emptied out minutes before showtime this week, and the reason has now come into focus. One member of the band went to the hospital, and his condition remains unclear.

Earth, Wind & Fire postponed its San Francisco concert after drummer John Paris suffered a medical emergency and was hospitalized

Drummer John Paris is the Earth Wind & Fire member who suffered the medical emergency that derailed the band’s San Francisco show, sources familiar with the situation told TMZ.

None of the group’s three longtime members were involved. Philip Bailey, Verdine White and Ralph Johnson were all unaffected.

The San Francisco Fire Department confirmed the response. A fire engine and a private ambulance went to the venue for a cardiac incident, and crews took one person to a local hospital in critical condition.

Paris’ current condition remains unclear.

The band had been set to play Thursday night at the Chase Center alongside Lionel Richie. Organizers called the concert off shortly before the performers were due onstage.

Sources reached out to representatives for Earth Wind & Fire for comment. No response has come back so far.

Paris has held the drum chair with the group since 2001. The New Jersey native also works as a saxophonist, arranger, producer, singer and songwriter. Before joining, he built a long session and touring career, playing with Patti LaBelle, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Cliff and Sheila E. He also worked with the late bassist and NBA player Wayman Tisdale.
