The sitcom Boy Meets World ended years ago, but its memories still seem fresh in fans’ minds. Its spinoff series, Girl Meets World, also received plenty of attention, and Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle, and Rider Strong recently sat down to watch the reboot. During their discussion, they felt that Sabrina Carpenter ended up overshadowing the show’s lead star.
Original Boy Meets World stars admit Sabrina Carpenter ‘steals every scene’ from Rowan Blanchard
Recently, Pod Meets World released Episode 101, titled “Girls Meet,” where hosts Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle, and Rider Strong shared some candid thoughts on the spinoff series Girl Meets World. During the discussion, they felt that Rowan Blanchard, who played protagonist Riley Matthews, daughter of Boy Meets World’s Cory Matthews, was overshadowed by Sabrina Carpenter, who played her best friend Maya Hart.
Will Friedle said, “The cast is phenomenal, but [Carpenter] walks on screen, she’s a star. She steals every scene she’s in,” Rider strong added to it, “She steals the episode.”
Strong said, “Unfortunately, I think it’s a little bit of an unbalancing of the show. And it’s not Rowan’s fault. They’re not giving Rowan much help here in terms of character. It’s too bad.”
“Also, just being overshadowed by somebody who— in the entertainment world, three years makes a big difference. And an entertainer at 15 is a hell of a lot different than an entertainer at 12. You’re right. And Rowan is adorable, and she is great. But Sabrina gets on screen, and you’re like, ‘That’s the star,'” Friedle concluded.
As for Girl Meets World, it was a spinoff sequel to Boy Meets World that premiered on June 27, 2014, and ran until January 20, 2017, on Disney Channel. The series had three seasons and a total of 72 episodes.
Alongside Rowan Blanchard and Sabrina Carpenter, the sequel’s cast also included Ben Savage as Cory Matthews, Danielle Fishel as Topanga Matthews, Peyton Meyer as Lucas Friar, Corey Fogelmanis as Farkle Minkus, and August Maturo as Auggie Matthews.
