Morning Joe Slams White House for Fueling Out-of-Control Natalie Harp Drama

The controversy surrounding Natalie Harp has caught the attention of Joe Scarborough, who blamed the White House for amplifying the controversy and turning it into a national story. The Morning Joe host accused the Trump administration of making “a classic miscalculation.”

Joe Scarborough mocks the White House for turning embarrassing Natalie Harp gossip into a national circus

Harp drew attention because of her close access to the president after Senator Jon Ossoff brought her up during a campaign rally. The 39-year-old stated Trump wants to “build his ballroom and travel with Natalie” rather than focus on his presidential duties. Harp reportedly joined Trump on a secret flight out of Turkey last month, leaving senior officials and journalists behind.

Scarborough said, “I’ve been in the White House, and I’ve talked to Donald Trump, the president, and seen [Harp] there. Never once assumed anything inappropriate was going on. The suggestion coming from Republicans that Ossoff somehow suggested that with this throwaway line, I thought was bizarre.”

Scarborough said the White House had overreacted to the controversy. He argued that its response turned the issue into a much bigger story, especially after a tweet brought a reporter’s children into the dispute. “For the White House to freak out like that, to melt down like that, they made this story, well, into something it would not have been,” Scarborough added.

He continued by saying that Trump’s political strength comes from getting people to “freak out,” overreact, and keep a story in the news cycle. He argued that the White House’s response to the controversy had done exactly that, giving the issue far more attention than it otherwise would have received. The host added, “Just a classic miscalculation from a White House that’s been doing that to everybody else for a decade now.”

Harp joined the White House as a presidential appointee when Trump returned to office in January 2025. According to White House records, Harp serves as a special assistant and executive assistant to the president, earning $150,000 a year. She is reportedly responsible for managing the president’s text messages and frequent posts on Truth Social.
