Perez Hilton’s brother-in-law, Tom, shared a sobering update after the blogger’s August hospitalization. He said Perez was now moving toward mental health treatment after weeks of care for serious physical injuries.
The celebrity blogger’s recovery followed an alarming August 4 incident that left his family shaken. Tom also offered new details about what Perez faced before and after his hospitalization.

PEOPLE reported that Perez, whose legal name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., appeared to harm himself during a TikTok livestream. Authorities hospitalized the 48-year-old after treating him for lacerations and an overdose.
The incident also caused significant blood loss and additional injuries that required surgery. Perez’s TikTok account was later banned.
Speaking on The Perez Hilton Podcast with Chris Booker, Tom said Perez had remained hospitalized for physical treatment. He described injuries from “the cutting” and “a couple of falls that happened during this process.”
Tom said those injuries included broken bones and complications connected to Perez’s earlier battle with sepsis. “So, we are now just transitioning into the mental side of things,” he explained.
Perez had moved to Miami after emergency surgery for a life-threatening case of sepsis. Tom said the move initially made sense because Perez had family and close friends there. However, Perez reportedly regretted relocating soon after he arrived.
His three children had been home with family minutes before the livestream. Perez’s sister discovered him in the bathroom, prompting the family to flee the property.
Tom said Perez was now “lucid,” although they had avoided extensively discussing August 4. He wanted to avoid triggering anxiety while Perez recovered. Tom also stressed that doctors had not diagnosed Perez with any specific condition.
“The actual healing, or digging into what caused this mental break as I’ve called it, hasn’t been discovered,” Tom said. “I don’t know if it will ever be.”
Perez had not seen his children during treatment because they could not enter his hospital section. His mother received temporary custody on August 18, while court documents reportedly required psychiatric clearance before supervised visits.
