Donald Trump’s administration has faced online mockery after its attempt to take a dig at Canada over the ongoing trade war backfired. The White House shared a post aimed at portraying the trade dispute as a win for the United States. However, the image used in the post soon drew attention for an unexpected reason.
Donald Trump’s administration gets mocked after its roasting attempt on Canada fails
The White House’s attempt to take a swipe at Canada over the latest trade dispute did not receive the response it appeared to expect. A post shared by the White House on X was quickly met with criticism and jokes after users highlighted the full context behind the photograph used in the post.
The dispute followed the collapse of trade talks between the United States and Canada last Friday. The U.S. then introduced a 50% tariff on around $20 billion worth of Canadian goods. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney answered with retaliatory tariffs on a “dollar for dollar” basis.
Carney addressed the situation on Saturday, saying, “Canada is becoming stronger and less dependent on America. We are already giving ourselves more than they can take away. And we are just getting started.”
The White House presented the developments as a victory for the Trump administration. In a post on X, it shared an article claiming that Trump “is finally ending Canada’s free ride.” The post also included a photograph of a bald eagle holding a Canada goose by the neck on a frozen Lake Ontario.
The photograph soon became the focus of the online response. Context added by X users explained that the photograph was taken during a documented 20-minute encounter between the two birds. The Canada goose fought back and survived after the bald eagle eventually gave up and retreated.
The clarification quickly drew attention, with users mocking the White House’s post. One user wrote in comments, “The White House account is officially a clown show.” Another added, “The Canada goose literally beat the Eagle a minute after this photo was taken. Genius stuff America lol.”
