Jelly Roll tells Nathan Fillion he got sick before filming his planned ‘The Rookie’ guest role
During the Aug 26 episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Jelly Roll sat down with The Rookie star Nathan Fillion. He started with acknowledging the “sweetest video” Fillion had made for his 12-year-old daughter, Bailee.
According to People, the conversation then veered towards Jelly Roll’s chance at appearing in The Rookie. “I heard a rumor, tell me if this is true,” Fillion asked. “I heard a rumor, at one point you were going to be on The Rookie. Is this true?”
Jelly Roll recounted how everything was set for his appearance when he fell sick. “I was so close,” Jelly said, adding, “They even wrote me a part and I blew it. I got sick after… You don’t know how much it meant to me. I was gonna beg you tonight to give me a second chance.”
Fillion asked Jelly, “Do you have any experience with the police?”
“Oh yes, I have,” Jelly replied, adding, “I don’t know if I’d make a good cop! But I could definitely fill the other side of that street for you… My friend Pete Davidson was on it once and I was like, ‘If Pete can do it, I can do it!’”
Jelly has long-expressed his love for TV. He told ABC in 2024, that he was fond of “old cop dramas” and called The Rookie his guilty pleasure.
Opportunities have appeared earlier for the singer. In April 2025, he appeared on CBS’ “Fire Country”. He liked the role of a health worker and former convict. Contrary to appearing on “Tulsa King” as himself, Fire Country gave him the chance to enter the skin of another person, one that had nothing to do with music.
