Emmy Rossum, the actress known for Shameless and The Phantom of the Opera, has opened up about encountering predatory behavior throughout her career. Rossum, who started working in the entertainment industry as a child, said she had been dealing with such behavior from a very young age.

In a TikTok video shared on Reddit, Rossum reflected on her experience while discussing her role in Furious. She said the opportunity to make the show felt deeply personal because of what she had experienced throughout her years in Hollywood.
“I think you could throw a dart and hit any number of mega predators that are in the news in the last 10, 15, 20 years, the history of forever. I started in this business when I was 7 years old, and I have been dodging predators, the biggest and the smallest, since I was a child, so for me the opportunity to make this show [was] a full-body experience.”
Rossum did not name or identify any specific people when discussing her experiences. Instead, she spoke broadly about navigating the entertainment industry as a young performer and how that history influenced her connection to the show.
Liz Meriwether, the creator of the crime-drama series, also shared how its subject matter had affected viewers. She said she had heard from someone whose teenage daughter opened up about a harmful relationship after watching the show.
“I heard from someone I don’t wanna get into too many details, but it just like that their teenage daughter spoke to them about a bad relationship that she was in after watching it, and they got her out of that relationship.”
