Doja Cat is known for shifting her musical style toward a sharper, rap-focused sound. Fans may also remember the discussions surrounding cocaine that followed her years ago. Now, the rapper has addressed the subject herself.
Doja Cat says her problems with cocaine date back roughly eight years
On Monday, the American rapper and singer addressed her fans on TikTok, where Doja Cat opened up about her past drug use. She revealed that she had struggled with cocaine roughly eight years ago.
According to TMZ, Doja said, “I’ve never had a real problem with drugs except for weed but alcohol is something that I’ve definitely had a problem with. I was never an alcoholic but I definitely had problems. So if I can teach anybody anything, I will tell you that it’s not good to pair these two things together.”
“I have struggled with cocaine, I think could have been like eight years ago, but I’m well past that so thank God,” she added.
The 30-year-old also said that if people start commenting on your posts about things you hate about yourself, you should first realize that you need help. Doja Cat added that once you understand that a person is doing this because of their personal struggles or mental health issues, you begin to feel compassion for them instead of anger.
The rapper ended her rant with a conclusion that also came across as advice, saying, “Think about what you’re saying, think about if it’s a projection.”
For context, Doja Cat said she struggled with cocaine about eight years ago, and 2018 was a period of major ups and downs for the rapper. Around the same time, her song “Mooo!” went massively viral on the internet, making the artist, originally known as Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, an overnight star. However, she was also dealing with internal struggles, including mental stress and drug use, which Cat has recently discussed publicly.
