Utah judge Tony Graf Jr. will decide after the Tuesday, September 1 hearing whether the accused killer should stand trial. Tyler Robinson faces seven charges in connection with Charlie Kirk’s murder, including aggravated murder.
According to People’s coverage, during Tuesday’s hearing, Judge Graf will hear arguments from both the prosecutors and Robinson’s defense team before deciding whether there is enough evidence to send the case forward to trial.
Prosecutors have already announced that if the case proceeds, they will seek the death penalty for Robinson.
Charlie Kirk, the co-founder of Turning Point USA, died on September 10, 2025. Someone shot him during an event at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, Utah, while he sat under a tent and spoke with the crowd.
According to the details of the incident, a rooftop shooter fired from a building about 400 feet away, striking the 31-year-old in the neck and causing chaos at the scene. Tyler Robinson was later arrested as the accused killer. After fleeing the scene, Robinson surrendered to police approximately 33 hours later.
The FBI found a .30-06 caliber bolt-action rifle, identified as a Mauser bolt-action rifle, in Tyler Robinson’s possession. Authorities have described personal and political hatred as the motive behind the killing.
On September 16, 2025, the accused appeared before the court via video conference, followed by an online hearing on September 30, 2025. The biggest hearing in the case took place on December 11, 2025, when Tyler Robinson appeared before a judge in Utah.
In July 2026, the case took a serious turn as prosecutors presented witnesses and evidence in court over several days, from July 6 through July 10, 2026.
