Cher, the iconic singer and actress known for hits like “Believe” and her role in Moonstruck, faced another development in her ongoing conservatorship case involving her son. Her son, 50-year-old musician Elijah Blue Allman, did not appear at the latest court hearing on Tuesday.

Allman was expected to have legal representation at the Los Angeles hearing. However, neither he nor his attorney, Steven Brumer, appeared in court, as reported by Page Six. As a result, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui decided to appoint a lawyer for Allman and continue the case.
The judge also noted that Allman had previously wanted to represent himself but was told that he needed an attorney.
Because no one was present to represent him, Uzcategui continued the hearing to December 1.
Meanwhile, Cher has asked the California court to pause the conservatorship case for about 120 days. She wants to wait while a separate guardianship case involving Allman plays out in New Hampshire.
The New Hampshire proceedings began after New Hampshire State Hospital initiated guardianship proceedings for Allman in July. According to Cher’s latest filing, the main issue there is now who should serve as his guardian.
Cher’s attorneys have said that if the New Hampshire guardianship becomes permanent and adequately protects Allman, she may drop the California case. However, if it proves temporary, she intends to continue seeking a conservatorship in California.
The dispute comes amid Cher’s concerns about her son’s ability to manage his finances. She has argued that court oversight is needed to protect the roughly $120,000 in annual trust distributions he receives from his late father Gregg Allman’s estate.
Allman’s wife, Marieangela King, was also in court to support him. However, she has previously objected to Cher’s conservatorship petition and argued that a California conservatorship is unnecessary.
For now, the California case remains ongoing, with the next hearing scheduled for December 1.
