Pete Davidson, 32, met a fan in Brooklyn with a genetic disorder. He was filming his upcoming movie Tommy Karate when he had an emotional interaction with a fan. He donated $20,000 to support research into the rare disorder.
His fan, Liam, is a young aspiring comic who has 5p- syndrome, also called Cri du Chat syndrome. According to PEOPLE, the condition can cause symptoms, including high-pitched crying that is like a cat’s voice and physical symptoms like a small jaw, round face, and low-set ears. People with the disorder can experience intellectual disabilities, language delays, and heart defects, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Cri du Chat Research Foundation shared a Facebook post about Pete Davidson’s donation. They revealed that the actor made a donation after meeting Liam and his mother.
While sharing a photo, they wrote, “A heartfelt thank you to actor, writer, comedian, and native New Yorker, Pete Davidson, for taking the time to learn about 5p- syndrome (Cri du Chat syndrome), meet our Liam the Lion, and show him so much love. We couldn’t help but smile knowing that, along with being New York kids, you both have something pretty special in common… you’re both comedians!”
They added, “Pete, your genuine willingness to listen, learn, and shine a light on this rare and profound disorder means more to us than we can put into words. And your generous donation to the Cri du Chat Research Foundation will help advance critical research and drug development for 5p-. We are incredibly grateful.”
