Kate Middleton’s next royal appearance could deliver another dazzling tiara moment alongside Prince William. The Princess of Wales had a major diplomatic engagement waiting after the palace announced Oman’s upcoming state visit.
The visit marked the first incoming state visit of the season and promised plenty of royal pageantry. It also created a likely opportunity for Kate to return to one of her most glamorous traditions after her summer break.

Buckingham Palace announced that Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman would visit Britain from October 20 through 22. King Charles and Queen Camilla planned to host the three-day visit. The schedule traditionally included a ceremonial welcome and a white-tie state banquet. The palace had not confirmed every royal attendee, but William and Kate were expected to take prominent roles.
That made the event particularly exciting for royal fashion watchers. State banquets remained among the rare occasions when royal women wore tiaras.
Kate’s previous appearances showed how naturally she handled the spotlight. During Donald Trump’s 2025 state visit, she sat beside the president during the Windsor Castle banquet. Trump toasted Kate as “radiant and healthy” during his speech. Royal biographer Ingrid Seward later told PEOPLE that Kate understood the attention surrounding her.
“She lightened the whole evening. She lit up the table with the megawatt smile,” Seward said. She added that Kate faced significant pressure because “all eyes were on her.” “She is definitely showing traits of being a remarkable future queen,” Seward continued. “She has the most beautiful smile, which captivates everyone. It’s just magical.”
The Oman visit also carried historical weight. It marked the first U.K. state visit by an Omani Sultan in more than 40 years.
Queen Elizabeth II hosted Sultan Qaboos bin Said during the previous Omani state visit in March 1982. The British royal family also maintained longstanding ties with Oman. Charles visited Oman four times while he remained Prince of Wales. His most recent trip came in January 2020 after Sultan Qaboos died.
Camilla accompanied Charles during a two-day Oman visit in 2016. Charles later welcomed Sultan Haitham to Windsor Castle during a private July 2025 visit.
Beyond the sparkle, state visits offered the royals a chance to exercise diplomatic “soft power.” William’s increasingly prominent role also offered a preview of his future responsibilities as king.
