Slater Nalley and Thunderstorm Artis were sent home in the final double elimination of the season. Judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan could only watch on, as they no longer have the power to use their judges’ save for a contestant.
John covered The Jungle Book’s The Bare Necessities in last night’s show. He later took on Rainbow Connection from The Muppet Movie. Meanwhile, Jamal chose to tackle Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, and the titular track from Beauty and the Beast. Finally, Breanna won viewers over with her renditions of Natalie Cole’s This Will Be (An Everlasting Love), and Tarzan tune You’ll Be in My Heart.
Thunderstorm failed to win enough votes with Cinderellas’ A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes, and Find Yourself, from Cars 3. Slater, meanwhile, sang You’ve Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story, which earned high praise from Lin-Manuel Miranda. His other song choice was Born to Be Wild, from D3: The Mighty Ducks. Not the most recognizable Disney track; could that be why he was sent packing?
American Idol concludes with the three-hour finale on Sunday, May 18 at 8/7c on ABC.
