I’m going to say it. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 2 is fantastic. The intrigue and betrayal are all there, covered in a soft myst of sexual inuendo. We learn so much more about the soft swinging scandal. But we also learn about the skeletons inside these women’s closets. Here’s why Demi Engemann wound up being the villain in Season 2.
Jen Affleck isn’t being honest
At the end of Season 1, Jen Affleck had everyone backing her after her toxic relationship with Zac Affleck was highlighted. Suffice it to say, Jen was the Snow White of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. However, Season 2 wasn’t as kind to our dear Jen. Instead of the sweet downtrodden wife of Zac, she morphed into quite a woman on her milk box. In the first few episodes, Jen is coming in hot. As she tried to repair her marriage, her years of bashing Zac came back to haunt her. Demi and Jessi Ngatikaura have been her ride or dies, but their friendship has taken a hit.
Jen has insisted that Zac make amends with her two besties. However, Jen wasn’t prepared for her two friends to be brutally honest. During their coffee meet-up, Zac learns that Jen has been the one turning their friends against him. He claims he didn’t say half the stuff they are revealing and now wonders how much Jen has tweaked the truth. The aspiring doctor also revealed he never told Jen he was related to Ben Affleck. To make matters worse, Jen takes no accountability and doubles down. She goes as far as to insinuate Demi cheated while at Vanderpump Villa.
Can Whitney Leavitt reclaim the title?
Whitney Leavitt is back and is trying to wiggle herself a place back into MomTok. Fans of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will recall Whitney left the group chat and ran her mouth all over social media about the rest of the women. Naturally, no one took too kindly to her verbal warfare and iced her out. Whitney has been embroiled in scandal after scandal. In 2022, she was faced with backlash after she posted a video of dancing in the hospital while her son was sick in bed.
Honestly, not much has changed for Whitney. She still gives off an air of superiority. But now, the women see right through her. And as the episodes go on, she does what any outcast would do. She tries to bond with the newbie, Miranda McWhorter. Whitney desperately needs an ally and someone to stick up for her. As the season started, I was skeptical of Whit. She was playing the pregnancy/emotional card, but her motives seemed clear: get back onto MomTok at all costs. Suffice it to say, she secured a place back amongst her pack.
Demi Engemann vs. Taylor Frankie Paul was a surprise
I should have known when Demi embraced Whitney back into the group that there would be trouble. But as much as I would like to say Whitney’s evil ways rubbed off on Demi, I don’t think that is the case. Demi’s issues started while in Italy at Vanderpump Villa. Fans watched as she was caught flirting with Marciano Brunette. While she claims she was just giving some friendly advice, most fans agree that Demi’s chat felt icky. And as noted, Jen clearly agreed with that sentiment. However, Demi really turned a corner after Taylor insinuated that her marriage to Bret Engemann wasn’t doing that great. Rumors have been swirling about Bret sleeping with a woman when Demi was in Italy.
Demi’s true colors are revealed after the Scottsdale, AZ trip. The majority of MomTok comes for her, and it’s revealed she told producers she was okay with more money, even if it meant kicking Jessi out of the group. Yikes, girl. That’s … a lot. Taylor also called her out for saying she deserved the most brand deals. It seems like Demi is sly as a fox, with her motives being questioned. Demi pulls away with the W for villain of the year this season.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will be available to stream on Hulu on May 15th. The show streams on Disney+ in the UK.
