Olivia Munn on welcoming daughter via surrogate
Olivia Munn shared her extraordinary journey of being a surrogate mother to her 8-month-old daughter. As per an exclusive report by PEOPLE, Munn reflected on the challenges of battling breast cancer while being candid about her fertility struggles. Through her story, the “Your Friends & Neighbors” star imparted wisdom on resilience, hope, and the power of family.
Munn, who also has a 3-year-old son, reflected, “I was like, ‘Oh wait, is this what it’s like to be an expectant dad?” The actor elaborated, “A lot of times people say, ‘Oh, the dads don’t really connect with the baby until it’s right there in front of them.” She explained how her latest pregnancy felt different: “Even though it all felt very real for me, and our surrogate and I spoke all the time and she’d send me videos, it was a little bit of, ‘Oh wait, she’s coming,” adding, “I felt like an expectant father.”
Munn went through an extensive treatment for breast cancer, leading to the removal of her uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. Later, she followed a special IVF protocol for cancer patients, ultimately securing two female embryos. The actor demanded support from her husband, John Mulaney. She recalled telling him, “I really don’t think that I’ll be okay unless we get two girl embryos. I know this puts me at risk, but I just need you to support me,” to which Mulaney simply responded, “Whatever you need.”
Munn appreciated the surrogate, “We were so lucky to find someone so kind who we bonded with so much.” However, she worried, “Will my daughter know me?” Nevertheless, her worries vanished upon Méi’s arrival. She recalled, “Méi would cry, and I was the only one who could get her to stop.”
Olivia Munn’s surrogate journey and her profound bond with her daughter after she battled with breast cancer is a story of survival and love.
