Former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce is known for being just a down-to-earth guy. So it must have been something of a shock when he came face-to-face with British royalty.
After attending the London performance of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour, Jason was just relaxing with a beer, when Prince William walked in. ICYDK, Taylor’s boyfriend is Jason’s brother Travis Kelce, and Tay Tay had offered to introduce Jason to the royals.
Apparently, William and Taylor have been friends since meeting at a charity event at Kensington Palace in 2013. Not only is William a friend, but he’s also a fan, so he brought his two older children, Prince George, 12, and Princess Charlotte, 10, to Taylor’s concert. When Taylor introduced the family to Jason, he immediately went into a panic.

On August 13, Taylor popped into Travis and Jason’s New Heights podcast, where she giggled over Jason’s first brush with royalty. “Wasn’t this the week I got to watch Jason meet the royal family?” she laughed.
“He was like, ‘What do I do with my beer?’” Travis added.
“I watched him have this moment with his beer where he was like, ‘I want to take it, but I know that I probably should not take it,’” Taylor chuckled, miming Jason holding up his beer can. “It kind of was the most amazing …”
“I like that you picked up on it,” Jason agreed, “because that was exactly what was going through my head.” Well-known for his love of the suds, Jason and Travis co-own Garage Beer, a light beer brand based in Ohio.
“Like, if I don’t have my beer, what do I do with my hand now?” Swift joked, pretending to be Jason.
The conversation then transitioned to whether it’s disrespectful to be holding a beer when you meet royalty. “Is it disrespectful?” Jason wondered.
“Or is it authentic by having the beer?” Taylor responded. “I would normally have the beer. Wouldn’t they want me to be myself? I’m watching you say that in your head.”
Perhaps it would have been different if Jason had been holding a glass of champagne? Actually, the late Queen Elizabeth herself enjoyed a cocktail before dinner, so I don’t think anyone was offended.
At any rate, Taylor thought Jason’s moment of awkwardness was hilarious. “It was fantastic,” she concluded.
