Project Runway is in full swing! Designers are showcasing their impressive designs to the world. Fans are happy the show is back, but they are divided when it comes to the new judge. Law Roach offers very strong critiques, and some fans think he’s being way too hard on the contestants.
Season 21 of the popular reality design competition premiered in July and it’s already making waves. The show, now on Freeform, is firing on all cylinders and even though it’s just started, fans are already making predictions, picking faves, and giving their feedback on the judges.
Project Runway judge Law Roach isn’t making any friends on the show
One judge getting his own feedback from fans is Law. He joined the judging panel alongside Heidi Klum (in her triumphant return) and Nina Garcia, along with fun celebrity guest judges. The celebrity stylist has an impressive roster of A-list clients and some controversial opinions.
Most fans remember that judges usually give constructive criticism on the show. Even when pointing out things that may be wrong, they tended to do so in a positive way. This is why some of Law’s comments raised eyebrows.
On the premiere episode, Law already made contestant Jesus Estrada cry after he said he “hated” the look, despite Jesus being in the top three. Law said he disliked it, and Jesus responded, “I’m sorry you hated the coat.”
“I hated the whole thing!” Law interrupted him, causing Jesus to start crying. Nina gave him flattering feedback on his piece. But Law wasn’t having that.
“I have to disagree with everything Nina said,” Law said.
On the third episode, Law expressed disdain for Ethan Mundt’s entire team and denim “showstopper” collection. “I’m really pissed off about this collection,” he said. “I did not come here to look at a bunch of ugly f*cking clothes.”
To be fair, he has given good feedback too. The negative though is what fans are picking up on most, likening him to Simon Cowell in American Idol’s earlier seasons. Some fans like his brutal honesty, while others think he is going way too far.
“Hard pass on Law. He’s rude,” one said. Another added, “He’s far too cruel and should not be on the show.”
