Wendy Williams was a force in the talk show circuit for over a decade. The beloved, Wendy Williams Show, ended after 14 seasons in 2022. Fans were devastated when it came to a close, but things only got worse for Wendy the following year.
In 2023, on the heels of the Free Britney movement, Wendy was placed in her own guardianship. A judge put her financial and medical decisions in the hands of Sabrina Morrissey, A New York lawyer. It started when Wells Fargo Bank flagged unusual activity on her account and began the legal proceedings. She was then deemed legally incompetent. Her family was not involved in this process.
Following her guardianship, she was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). She’s spent the last years in a luxury assisted living home. She believed she was improving and would be able to make a comeback on TV; sadly, that would not come to fruition.
The Wendy Williams guardianship is remaining in place

Wendy’s caretaker, Ginalisa Monterroso, recently shared that she was not medically incapacitated. However, an updated medical exam came to a different conclusion.
According to legal documents obtained by PEOPLE, her guardianship will not end anytime soon. The new assessment upheld her dementia diagnosis. The document advises, “a significant number of tests (both medical and neuropsychological) and scans (including brain imaging)” were conducted. The doctor has since come to an ‘opinion’ on her mental well-being, which continued to keep her under Sabrina’s guardianship.
Complications surrounding the guardianship occurred, according to a judge. Members of Wendy’s family are getting involved. Counsel for her family and ex-husband are hoping to have more control over her medical needs. They are not only looking to challenge her guardianship. If Wendy has to be under legal control, they don’t believe Sabrina should be her guardian.
As of now, her guardianship has been extended through November.
