The Bold and the Beautiful To Feature First Gay Male Couple in Soap’s History

Being on the air for decades, The Bold and the Beautiful has explored countless storylines.

Remaining relevant and popular over that length of time has required its writers to find numerous new plot twists and relationships to explore. Coming soon, though, the show will be introducing something never seen before in all of its years on television.

Despite running for almost 40 years, The Bold and the Beautiful is yet to feature a gay male couple

The Bold and the Beautiful premiered in March of 1987 and is still going strong to this day. As with many longstanding shows, their key to longevity has been a willingness always to create new and interesting plots and characters, keeping their fans intrigued and attracting others to their soap opera.

In nearly 40 years of television shows, they’ve never explored the idea of a gay male couple, until now. Deadline was the first to report that the show is adding actor Harrison Cone to its cast as the love interest of Remy Pryce, played by Christian Weissmann. Harrison’s character remains unknown but, according to reports, he’ll have a close connection to another big character on the show. They say that Harrison and Remy’s characters will share a kiss on screen.

While it’s the first time the show will have a gay male couple, it’s not the first time there’s been an LGBTQ angle. In 2012, the character Karen Spencer had a lesbian relationship with Danielle. Three years later, the character Maya Avant came out as transgender as part of the show’s storyline. Actor Scott Turner Schofield joined the cast later that year, becoming the first transgender actor to appear on a daytime TV show as Nick.

“We are headed into an era of The Bold and the Beautiful — and it will begin here — that is going to be highlighting fashion much more than we have in the past, much more frequently,” said the show’s executive producer, Brad Bell.

You can catch The Bold and the Beautiful weekdays on CBS.
