Dakota Mortensen knows laughter is the best medicine. He’s leaning into humor on the heels of his ex, Taylor Frankie Paul, being announced as the next Bachelorette. He posted a fun, satirical video of his own audition for The Bachelor.
While they tried, Dakota and Taylor couldn’t make their relationship work. And despite sharing a son named Ever True, the couple’s relationship was not ever true. Not only has The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star moved on, she’s moved on in a big way as the next Bachelorette. It’s hard enough watching an ex move on; imagine watching it happen on TV? Dakota figured the best way to handle it was to follow her lead.
Could Dakota Mortensen actually become the Bachelor?
In a funny response to Taylor’s Bachelorette announcement, Dakota posted a video to his Instagram where he “auditioned” to be the next Bachelor. He posted the video one day after Taylor was confirmed by ABC for The Bachelorette Season 22.
In his video, Dakota used Lindsay Lohan’s viral audio from her 2009 mock dating reel. It was the same sound that Taylor used in her own video earlier this year with the caption, “Sending this in for my chance as the next Bachelorette.”
On top of the video, Dakota wrote, “Is this how it works to be the next Bachelor?”
Many fans clocked the callback to Taylor’s video with the same audio. Some were thrilled at the prospect of it possibly being real! Some even thought a good plot twist would be Dakota appearing on Taylor’s season.
However, it was just satire on Dakota’s part. In his caption, he wrote, “It’s just a joke… everyone relax. Lol. That being said, I am happy for Tay and I hope that she finds happiness no matter what.” He did end with some honesty, though, adding a bandaged heart emoji.
It’s only natural to get in your feelings when watching an ex move on. Dakota may have felt a certain way about the news since Taylor didn’t tell him firsthand. Either way, he looks like he’s accepted it. For now, he’s focusing on himself and their son. He will be taking Taylor to court to settle their child custody agreement.
