With questions swirling around President Joe Biden’s mental state ahead of the 2024 election, the Academy Award winner pushed for a new candidate. He published an opinion piece in The New York Times entitled I Love Joe Biden. But We Need a New Nominee.
While Joe removed himself from the race, things didn’t work out as George had hoped with his replacement. In the end, Kamala Harris ultimately lost the 2024 Presidential election. George’s involvement didn’t go over well with Joe’s family, particularly his son Hunter, who spoke out against him.
George had endorsed Joe for the Democratic ticket in 2020. Joe won the nomination and became President, defeating incumbent Donald Trump on that occasion.

Despite the failure of 2024, George still believes he can pick the right candidate for 2028.
An insider told RadarOnline.com that the actor wants to be the Democratic “Kingmaker” for the next election. He’s been pushing hard to garner the support of wealthy donors and celebrities so that he can be the one to bless that next nominee.
While he’s clearly still intent on being in the political game, George may have to mend some fences if he wants to have a voice in the process. “He helped shove Biden aside – and it nearly tore the party apart,” said an insider. According to another insider, George may not be as politically savvy as he thinks: “He wants to be the guy who anoints the nominee – but will his blessing be a gift or a curse?”
The 2025 Tony Award nominee has been very vocal in the past about various political causes, including gun control, LGBTQ rights, and the Syrian refugee crisis, among others.
