When Prince William asked his longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton to marry him in October 2010, he gave her his mother’s engagement ring. Princess Diana’s iconic 12-carat sapphire and diamond ring is one of the most famous pieces of jewelry in the world.
Following their marriage six months later, a traditional band of Welsh gold was added. After wearing the two rings for nearly 15 years, the glamorous princess recently added some new bling.

At the funeral last week for Katherine, Duchess of Kent, the Princess of Wales wore a diamond-and-sapphire eternity band. Made by royal jewelers G. Collins & Sons, the ring was first noticed by royal watchers over the summer.
In addition to these three rings, Katherine has also added an Annoushka diamond eternity ring and a platinum band featuring small diamonds. The eternity ring is believed to be a gift from William following the birth of their oldest child, Prince George.
As for the sapphire-and-diamond eternity band, it may be a gift commemorating the completion of her chemotherapy treatment last year. As we know, Kate was out of sight for months dealing with her cancer diagnosis and treatment.
According to the Daily Mail, the princess’ five-ring stack is “a quiet evolution in royal jewelry, favoring modern, personal symbolism over formality.” This description fits Kate Middleton to a tee. Even with all the crown jewels at her disposal, she prefers to wear pieces with sentimental value.
Occasionally, Kate is spotted in public without her mother-in-law’s engagement ring on her finger. In these moments, the princess may be consciously directing attention toward the message of the event and away from herself. In the same way, she may pay tribute to the late Queen by wearing an item Her Majesty gifted to her. She also likes to keep her children close by wearing a necklace with the initials of G, C and L (for George, Charlotte and Louis).
Not only does Katherine look beautiful and composed wherever she goes, the future queen is a master of accessorization.
