Jennifer Lopez has recently opened up about her divorce from Ben Affleck, calling it “the best thing that ever happened” to her. The former couple made headlines in 2021 when they rekindled their romance decades later. However, they called it quits in 2024, just two years after their wedding.

Jennifer Lopez comments on Ben Affleck divorce

In a recent interview with CBS News Sunday Mornings, Jennifer Lopez got candid about her divorce from Ben Affleck. The actress spoke with Lee Cowan about her upcoming movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman. The film is produced under Artists Equity, the production company founded by Affleck and Matt Damon.

Lopez opened up about how she has developed a positive outlook on the divorce and their current professional respect for each other. “The movie wouldn’t have been made if it weren’t for him and Artists Equity,” Lopez revealed.

She went on to credit Affleck for the project, saying, “I told him this was the role I was born to play and I wanted to do it and he was like, ‘Okay,’ and he helped make it happen.”

Lopez opened up about her experience working on the film with Affleck and her personal struggles as well. “It was hard not to think about stuff,” she said. “It was like the best and the worst of times, in a way, because every moment on set, every moment I was doing this role, I was so happy. And then it was like, back home, it was not great. And it was just like, ‘How do I reconcile this?'”Lopez explained.

The star continued, “But you get through it. And you know, honestly, I have to say it was the best thing that ever happened to me because it changed me. It didn’t change me. It helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow. Um, become more self-aware. I’m a different person now than I was last year, I think, a year and a half ago.”

Kiss of the Spider Woman is a musical drama film featuring Lopez, Diego Luna, and Tonatiuh. The movie arrives in U.S. theaters on October 10, 2025.
