Taylor Swift has done it again! Her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, has finally arrived, and there’s a lot to discuss. Taylor’s new album features 12 songs, which is surely one of the singer’s famous Easter Eggs.

Every Taylor album is an era of its own, quite literally! Taylor’s last album, The Tortured Poets Department, was raw and emotional, mainly alluding to her breakups with Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy. However, The Life of a Showgirl is quite the opposite. The new album is upbeat and energetic, with several references to Taylor’s new fiancé Travis Kelce

With every new Taylor album, Swifties naturally compare her new songs to her older ones. Here’s everything fans have said so far about TLOAS in comparison to the artist’s past work.

As expected, Taylor fans are already obsessing over TLOAS. After a first listen at midnight, many Swifties are already claiming TLOAS as one of their new favorite albums. On one thread, Reddit User Weimaraner666 wrote, “Rolling Stone gave it a five star review and slightly so, I’m loving this damn album.” Many fans agreed in the comments, citing TLOAS as an absolute masterpiece by Taylor.

However, every new album, no matter who the artist will always have its critics. In the same thread, Reddit User hikingjunkiee said, “TO ME, the album feels rushed and not finished?” Several other Redditors agreed that TLOAS isn’t their favorite album so far. Everyone has their own preferences, and not every album will be everyone’s favorite. Sometimes it also takes a few listens to really appreciate and understand the new songs.

While there are mixed opinions on TLOAS, the reaction has been more positive so far. Even the fans who aren’t obsessed with the album have discussed really enjoying a few of the songs. Whether or not TLOAS is at the top of your Taylor rankings, there’s no question that Taylor put a lot of work and passion into this album.

In comparison to Taylor’s past albums, Swifties have mixed opinions as to where TLOAS falls in the rankings. Reddit User Ekyou explained, “On first listen, I like it better than TTPD and about equal to Midnights.” Many other Swifties in the comments agreed, citing TLOAS at the top of their new album ranking lists.

On the other hand, other fans were underwhelmed by the album in comparison to those that came before it. Reddit User Notthatserious3709 wrote, “I think TTPD was for Swifties. You had to be in the know and appreciate Taylor’s lyricism to love it. This album is for the masses/TikTok snippets/radio play.” Others agreed and expressed that they felt TTPD was a better-written album.

The vibes of TLOAS are very different from those of TTPD. Personal preference can dictate which album some Swifties may prefer, which doesn’t necessarily make one worse than the other. So far, some Swifties like TLOAS more than TTPD, while others rank it below. Since TTPD is Taylor’s most recent album, it’s the one that fans have been comparing to TLOAS the most so far.

All in all, TLOAS certainly doesn’t disappoint. The upbeat album has a little something for everyone, regardless of preference. It’s clear that Taylor is as happy as ever on this album, which is something all Swifties are elated to see. The singer who spent decades singing about heartbreak and betrayal has finally dedicated an album to her true love.

TLOAS features several stand out songs that are incredibly catchy. Elizabeth Taylor is fierce and upbeat, with a similar vibe to many songs from Reputation. Slower songs like Eldest Daughter are softer, but have smooth and memorable lyrics. And of course, the title track The Life of a Showgirl featuring Sabrina Carpenter is the star of the show! Taylor truly never lets her fans down and TLOAS is no exception.
