Taylor Swift’s 50 Cent Shoutout on New Album Earns Response From the Rapper

50 Cent is loving the name-drop Taylor Swift gave him on her latest album.

The 14-time Grammy Award winner mentioned the rapper born Curtis Jackson in the song Ruin the Friendship. That’s the sixth song on her new album entitled The Life of a Showgirl.

It’s Taylor’s 12th studio album, which was recorded during the European leg of her Eras tour a year ago. The album officially came out on Friday.

For years, 50 Cent has had a great deal of admiration and respect for Taylor. In 2009, he defended her after Kanye West famously stormed the stage to interrupt her acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. The Window Shopper rapper said that if Kanye did that to him, he’d have given him a black eye in front of everyone.

Evidently, Taylor still has plenty of love and admiration for 50 Cent, as she shouts him out in her song Ruin the Friendship. “And it was not an invitation / But as the 50 Cеnt song played (Song played) / Should’ve kissed you anyway (Anyway),” the lyrics say.

For his part, 50 Cent repaid the love to her on his Instagram account saying: “s*it is popping right now, ?she shout me out, ?she don’t shout you out. LOL ? THIS IS FOR BIG TIMERS ONLY! @50centaction wait I’m the only shout out on the whole album.”

Who or what the song is about is a big mystery.  By the title, some believe it could have to do with Taylor’s late friend Jeffrey Lang, who died at 21 in 2010. Others think it may be about singer Blake Lively. The two longtime friends are reportedly no longer on speaking terms.

Many of her other songs on the album talk about her being in a happy and fulfilling relationship. That has many believing the album could be a sort of homage to her fiancé, Travis Kelce.

The Life of a Showgirl is now available.
