Critical Role Campaign 4 Episode 1 Review Roundup

Critical Role released its latest installment on October 2. This campaign takes place in the brand-new world of Aramán. It brings a fresh story, a new Dungeon Master, and a bigger cast. The campaign features a rotating cast of 13 players, divided into three groups: Soldiers, Seekers, and Schemers. Brennan Lee Mulligan is the Dungeon Master, steering the story with his expert touch.

A lot of fans were nervous about juggling so many characters, and how that would fit together. However, the general consensus is that it actually works really well. Not only that, it’s a great time for newbies to come onboard. Co-founder Travis Willingham says now’s a perfect time for newcomers to jump in. The new campaign wipes the slate clean of previous lore.

So, how are the reviews? Well, so far – almost unanimously positive. Let’s delve in.

Critical Role Campaign 4 Episode 1 reviews are hugely positive

PC Gamer: “Critical Role: Campaign 4 is already everything I want out of an actual-play D&D game, and that my prior faith was well-placed. It’s chaotic, messy, and has convinced me we’re about to see something very special.”

Tech Raptor: “In just a single episode I feel that the plot has done an excellent job introducing us to characters and beginning to intrigue the players and viewers as to where this story might be heading next.”

Nerdist: “We are happy to report that Critical Role Campaign 4 remains every bit as epic an adventure as ever before.”

Temple of Geek: “Campaign 4 continues to bring the feeling of dear friends telling a story together, as Critical Role has for the past ten years. This is only the first episode, but it beautifully introduces the world of Aramán and the characters at the center of this story. The stage has been set for an epic high fantasy tale.”

Polygon: “Throughout the 4-hour episode, I was immediately immersed in the world of Aramán and what each cast member brought to it. What’s significant is that, even with 13 characters, each seems distinct and significant to the world they’re in. I, for one, can’t wait to find out more.”
