Her Dancing with the Stars journey may have come to an end, but Hilaria Baldwin is still thankful for her time in the ballroom. And she wants to set the record straight that she got on the show without the assistance of her famous hubby, Alec Baldwin. She’s no nepo-wife!
Her getting on the show all happened fairly quickly, and Hilaria is grateful things fell into place. She announced she’d be joining Season 34 in August and then quickly moved her family, including a staggering seven children, to LA for her exciting ballroom journey.
Hilaria Baldwin declares she’s no “nepo” wife
According to Hilaria, it was all very natural though. She denies Julianne Hough’s claims that she “campaigned” for a spot on the show and reiterated that Alec had nothing to do with it as well.
“If he ever made a call, that would make things easier on me, but I would feel like I didn’t deserve it,” she shared on Amanda Hirsch’s Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast (at the 49:52 mark). “I’m a hard worker. I want to earn things on my own merit, especially because anybody who marries a celebrity is going to be accused of being …”
“A nepo wife,” Amanda supplied, and Hilaria agreed.
“Right,” she said. “It makes you feel like you don’t earn things, which is just a horrible feeling. Especially as a Capricorn, a really horrible feeling.”
She clarified that she’s very independent, and while sometimes this can drive Alec crazy, he’s also very supportive of her. “He’s very proud, he’s very supportive,” she shared. In fact, the actor had been telling her for some time that she should go on DWTS.
She was initially worried that people wouldn’t want her on the show but was thrilled that everyone was so nice. It was like one big family. “I’m happy that it happened in the way that it happened,” she explained. “It was so organic.”
And to have the support of her whole family is just icing on the cake of her amazing DWTS journey. She and partner, Gleb Savchenko, may be signing off for now thanks to a shocking elimination, but Hilaria is grateful for her time on the show and for doing things her way.
Dancing with the Stars airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC and Disney+. It streams on Hulu the next day.
