Katie Thurston is keeping a positive outlook during her cancer battle. She’s actually looking forward to her next doctor visit and believes her upcoming scan will show improvement.
Following the reveal of her breast cancer in February, Katie openly shared her treatment journey. Even though by March her cancer had progressed to stage four, she got good news in July. Since learning that her tumors had shrunk, the Bachelor Nation star is hoping for additional optimistic news at her next checkup.
Katie Thurston is “very optimistic” for her six-month scan
“I’m doing good, all things considered,” she told E! News at The Pink Agenda’s 18th annual New York City Gala October 9. “I actually get my six-month scan on Monday, so I feel very optimistic about it.”
In the midst of her cancer journey, the Bachelorette alum married Jeff Arcuri in March. Since then, he has been a huge source of strength and courage for her.
“You can’t face cancer alone,” she confessed. “You really have to rely on your friends and family. And to have someone who’s your partner, who’s right there with you every step of the way? It’s meant everything.”
In addition, cancer has changed Katie’s view of the world, forcing her to look at things through a different lens. “I’ve realized you never know what someone is going through,” she admitted. “I find that I’m more patient with strangers. If someone is driving too slow or grumpy, you don’t know what they’re going through in their own life. And so I just feel like I’m more kind.”
In the meantime, Katie is supporting cancer events such as The Pink Agenda’s gala, which raised $340,000 for breast cancer research and care.
Active in the world of cancer warriors, Katie sat down with Teddi Mellencamp on Two T’s in a Pod in August. Though Teddi was previously diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, following intense treatment her doctors now say she has “no detectable cancer.”
Katie hopes to get the same news soon.
