Patrick Mahomes Says Travis Kelce ‘Still Got It’ Amid NBA Comment

After Travis Kelce amused NFL fans by comparing himself to NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon during the Kansas City Chiefs’ recent match against the Detroit Lions, his teammate Patrick Mahomes has come out to share his opinion on the tight end’s comments. In a recent discussion, the Chiefs quarterback backed Kelce’s now-viral Mic’d Up statement, saying the 36-year-old footballer “still got it.”

While talking to the media during the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice availability on October 15, Patrick Mahomes alluded to Travis Kelce’s recent statements about pulling off a Hakeem Olajuwon-esque maneuver against the Lions, noting that his teammate does possess the moves.

“He’s still got it. He’s got the vet moves,” the three-time Super Bowl champion said, as per NFL journalist Charles Goldman. Mahomes even expressed interest in learning ‘the Hakeem shake’ from Kelce, adding, “I feel like I’ve got some of those, too… maybe not the shake, I’ll have to learn that one from him.”

During the first quarter of the Chiefs’ recent 30-17 victory against the Lions, Kelce received a pass from Mahomes to complete a 15-yard gain. To avoid advancing Lions linebacker Jack Campbell, the TE executed the ‘Dream Shake,’ a move famously used by former Houston Rockets star Hakeem Olajuwon during his playing days.

While retreating to the sidelines, Kelce decided to let his teammates know about the basketball move he had pulled by stating, “They don’t wanna see me in the post. Hit they a** with a ‘Hakeem The Dream…’ I grew up watching that, so I emulated that. Shout out to The Dream.”

Both Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes had a game to remember against the Lions, with the duo combining on multiple occasions to lead the Chiefs to their third victory of the season. While Mahomes pitched in by throwing for 257 yards and notching three touchdowns, along with another score on the ground, Kelce recorded an impressive six receptions for 78 yards.
