Katy Perry’s newest song is filled with past heartaches.
Last week she released Bandaids, which appears to allude to her engagement to Orlando Bloom. The couple broke up this past summer.
Over the weekend, the pop icon opened up about just how difficult writing and performing that song was. “I struggled for months with the idea of putting this song out,” said Katy.
While Katy and Orlando never got married, they share one daughter, Daisy Dove. Katy’s song likely had an additional emotional element to it as a result.
Katy Perry says “it can be scary to be vulnerable”

It didn’t work out between Katy and Orlando, but that wasn’t due to a lack of trying, according to the former. In the song Bandaids Katy sings Hand to God, I promise I tried. The song goes on to say that it’s not what you did, it’s what you didn’t.”
In the song’s video, Katy loses a ring down a garbage chute and hurts her hand trying to retrieve it. In an Instagram post last week, Katy said that “even after all these years, it can be scary to be vulnerable.”
Despite their breakup both Katy and Orlando appear committed to raising their daughter, emphasizing their mutual respect for one another in September. Since the two split, there have been multiple reports suggesting Katy is dating Justin Trudeau. Last month, a source said the singer wanted to “keep it low-key,” with the former Canadian Prime Minister.
Katy had previously been married to Russell Brand. Daisy is the only child that Katy has. Orlando also has a son with his first wife, Miranda Kerr.
Currently, Katy is on the European leg of The Lifetimes Tour, which began in April. The tour concludes on December 7 in Abu Dhabi. Orlando’s latest movie, Wizards! is currently in post-production.
