Nicki Minaj Lawyer Drops Her ‘Abruptly’ Amid $10 Million Legal Battle

Nicki Minaj has had her fair share of high-profile arguments, but her latest battle isn’t playing out on social media or in a song. It’s happening in a courtroom. The rapper is being sued by a fan who claims she damaged his reputation, and the stakes are high — $10 million high.

To make things worse, her longtime lawyer just walked away from the case without warning. Between her celebrity feud du jour, contemplating her career, and juggling a few other lawsuits, Nicki’s busy. This latest twist definitely isn’t making things any easier.

According to Us Weekly, Judd Burstein, who represented Nicki in several major cases, abruptly dropped her as a client.

On November 3, The Northstar Group, a business management company recently hired by the rapper, sent a letter to the court. It said Nicki needed more time to “retain and onboard” a new defense lawyer after Judd’s sudden withdrawal.

The Northstar Group explained that it only learned about the lawsuit after Judd reached out. “That same day, Mr. Burstein abruptly withdrew entirely from his representation of [Nicki and her company], without giving any prior notice,” the representative wrote. The firm asked the court to pause the case so Nicki could hire new counsel and prepare a response.

Judd told Us Weekly, “After I won a dismissal of Tameer Peak’s defamation lawsuit against Nicki in New Jersey, I declined the opportunity to represent her when Peak refiled it in New York.” He added, “My decision was unrelated to any concern about the merits of Peak’s claims. I have no doubt that his Complaint is entirely frivolous and that Nicki did nothing wrong.”

In the current case, fan Tameer Peak claims Nicki “falsely accused” him of stalking and having a mental disability. He says she made the comments during an April 2024 Stationhead broadcast. He alleges she called him “one sandwich short of a picnic” and said he “clearly gets a check from the government.”

Nicki has asked for 45 more days to find a new lawyer and respond to the lawsuit. With several cases of her own and her husband Kenneth Petty’s, she has a lot on her messy plate.
