The highly publicized marriage of Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie in the early 2000s delivered some notable pop culture moments that fans remember to this day. Most famously, the former couple had sparked a rumor suggesting that they carried a vial of each other’s blood around their necks. Years later, Thornton has clarified what was truly going on with their eccentric necklaces.
Billy Bob Thornton shares if he and ex Angelina Jolie shared blood vials
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Billy Bob Thornton recently revealed he and Jolie did not wear a vial full of blood around their necks. Instead, it was a pair of lockets that contained just a single drop of each other’s blood. This story was reportedly blown out of proportion at the time, which gave birth to the notorious speculation.
“We each had a little locket, literally with a drop of blood in them,” Thornton clarified. “That’s a romantic little idea, and that’s all that was. But by the time it’s over, we’re vampires. We live in a dungeon, we drink each other’s blood, and this kind of stuff,” he added.
This isn’t the first time that the Landman star has addressed this speculation. He had previously explained the story in 2014 to students at Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film & Television.
“[Jolie] thought it would be interesting and romantic if we took a little razor blade and sliced our fingers, smeared a little blood on these lockets, and you wear it around your neck just like you wear your son or daughter’s baby hair in one,” Thornton revealed. “Same thing. From that, we were wearing quart jars of blood around our necks,” he concluded (via E! News).
