Tiger King ‘Bonus Episode’ Recap – Life After Joe Exotic

Since it’s debut on Netflix on March 20th, everybody has been clamoring for more “Tiger King.” The original seven-part docu-series was perfectly binge-able and the latest streaming obsession, coming right at a time when most every American found themselves sequestered or under quarantine in the comfort of their own homes. Just recently, Netflix released some numbers on the show, claiming that “Tiger King” has had more viewers than the original season of “Stranger Things,” with a whopping 19 million viewers just here in the U.S. and over 34 million worldwide.

Well Netflix delivered an Easter surprise this Sunday, giving us an all-new episode in the saga of Joe Exotic. Actually, Episode 8, entitled “The Tiger King and I,” acts more as an epilogue, an after-show, hosted by Joel McHale (“Community,” “Talk Soup”), because, why not? In the style of most other shows during this pandemic, Episode 8 consisted of isolated interviews conducted by Joel McHale. Several of the players from Tiger King gave us updates on their lives post-show. They also offered up several other juicy tidbits of information. Joel was a fair and funny host, respectfully mixing in some humorous questions to go with the more direct and serious questions that had been on everyone’s mind.

The biggest omission from this “bonus” episode was, of course, Joe Exotic himself, now serving a 22-year sentence for the crimes he committed. Also missing were two of the biggest characters from the series, Carole Baskin and Doc Antle, but there was plenty of story left to tell from the eclectic panel of guests Joel had assembled.

Read on to find out what we learned during this brand-new episode of “Tiger King“!

Tiger King Episode 6 Recap: The Noble Thing To Do

As Russell Crowe‘s Gladiator once said, “Are you not entertained?” That’s not even an option when it comes to Tiger King (of course you’re entertained, that’s why you’re reading a recap about the show!). It’s the most buzzed-about series to hit Netflix in quite a while. It’s our country’s favorite guilty-pleasure and diversion during these crazy times.

As we roll into Episode 6, the penultimate episode leading into the Episode 7 Series Finale, the murder-for-hire plot finally thickens. Up until now, we’ve been dropped into a world full of tigers, ex-cons, low-lives, zoos and eccentric animal trainers, where we’ve been given twist after unbelievable twist (Joe Exotic had not one but two husbands, who turn out to not even be gay???). Finally, we get to the real “true crime” chapter in the Joe Exotic story. We figure out just why he’s been giving phone interviews from inside Oklahoma’s Grady County Jail.

Just when you think things couldn’t get any weirder, Tiger King kicks into another gear. If you’ve already seen Tiger King Episode 6, you won’t mind reading on, But, if you haven’t and don’t want to be spoiled, you may want to turn back.

Survivor: Winners At War Episode 8 Recap: Peanut Butter, Jury Time

The merge episode of Survivor is always one of the best episodes of every season, and this one lived up to the hype. I’ve been soooooo looking forward to this particular episode ever since the them of Season 40 was announced, as it also featured The Edge of Extinction Return Challenge where one of the previously voted-out winners got a chance to re-enter the game. I was literally shaking in anticipation and even for several minutes after the challenge, as it did not disappoint (well, depending I guess on who exactly you were rooting for). We’re now not only into the post-merge, but the jury phase of the game too, as new alliances and battle lines are being drawn and re-drawn nearly every episode.

As I do at the beginning of every recap, please heed the following: Remember that this recap assumes that you have already seen this week’s episode of Survivor: Winners at War. Tiger King Episode 1 Recap: Long Live The King

There’s no one quite like Joe Exotic, star of the wild new Netflix mini-series, “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.” When this seven-part series dropped on Netflix on March 20th, it became an international sensation almost overnight. And it’s impossible to have missed hearing about it. There are countless memes and references flooding social media. Quarantined-Americans obsess over the latest binge-worthy phenomenon.

In fact, there are two types of people right now: Those that have seen Tiger King, and those whose curiosity has been piqued to the point where they are asking others: “Should I watch this Tiger King thing?”

The answer to that question is an emphatic YES. This too-bizarre-to-be-true real-life crime story is a train-wreck of epic proportions, a story that is impossible to look away from populated with a group of zany, memorable characters. It’s not only the best thing on TV right now – and a much-needed diversion for us all – but it’s also perfectly suited for Netflix. It’s a show that you’ll consume easily over the course of a day or two, before spending more time Googling things like “Is Joe Exotic real?” or “Carole Baskin” or “Don Lewis disappearance” than you did watching the show itself.

If you thought “Making A Murderer” was filled with classy people, just wait until you get a hold of Joe Exotic and his merry band of misfits. Joe Exotic is Steven Avery mixed with Richard Simmons and Ted Nugent, with just a hint of Steve Irwin thrown in.

If you’ve already seen Tiger King, you won’t mind reading on, but if you haven’t, stop fighting it. Let’s take a look at the first episode in the series and if you have not and don’t want to be spoiled, please come back later!

Survivor: Winners At War Episode 7 Recap: Out With The Old, In With The New

So how’s everybody doing? Here’s hoping everybody is safe and optimistic during these uncertain times. As for me? Well, I’m great if you consider that – so far at least – My family and myself have managed to stay healthy and we’re all just hanging in there. But ask me how I’m doing when it comes to Survivor? My answer would be: NOT GOOD. Not good at all. Tonight was one of the most disappointing, frustrating and devastating night’s of watching Survivor that I’ve experienced in a long, long time…maybe as far back as I can remember. As with everything else going on in the world, things with Survivor are simply not going the way that I want them to, and I’m losing faith that things are going to turn around.

Slow and steady? That strategy didn’t work too well during tonight’s episode, not on The Edge and definitely not in the game…well, except maybe during the Immunity Challenge. But those that acted quick and looked to make bold moves benefited this week, where others did not.

As I do at the beginning of every recap, please heed the following: Remember that this recap assumes that you have already seen this week’s episode of Survivor: Winners at War. Survivor: Winners At War Episode 6 Recap: Old Schooled

Well I don’t know about you, but this past week has been one of the most stressful and shocking of my life…I’m sure many of you feel the same. I’m certain that recent events have made us all stop and take stock as to what we DO have in our lives, and one thing that I know I am awfully proud and grateful for – following of course my family, my son, my friends, etc. – is that I get to write. Being a film critic and getting to cover Survivor, my all-time favorite show that I was obsessed with years before writing about it professionally, is truly something that I took for granted. I know that now. What a difference a week makes.

And what a week to write about Survivor. Tonight saw not one, but two legends of the game fall from grace. It’s one deadly knock-out blow after another this season, and this week was no different other than it featured TWO knock-out punches. And if anything is clear as we reach the mid-point of “Winners at War,” it’s this: New School is beating the living hell out of Old School, the latter of which who is down and stumbling around the ring looking for answers that don’t seem to be there.

As I do at the beginning of every recap, please heed the following: Remember that this recap assumes that you have already seen this week’s episode of Survivor: Winners at War. Survivor: Winners At War Episode 5 Recap: New Season, Who Dis?

It seems sort of odd focusing on, obsessing over and arguing about a Reality TV show on a day like today. This coronavirus news and how it’s impacting our lives, our country, our world is simply overwhelming and forces us to keep our emotions in perspective…and as we learned just hours ago (first reported by EW.com), this virus has now also affected our favorite show, Survivor. In case you haven’t heard, just as production was about to start in Fiji, Jeff Probst informed the cast and crew of the upcoming 41st and 42nd seasons that production on the show would be delayed at least until mid-May because of the global coronavirus pandemic (more on this in a bit). It’s a scary time, that’s for sure.

But on the other hand, watching tonight’s episode was a much-needed diversion from reality. It really felt good to lose myself in the show, especially today. So I hope this article will provide some level of escape for you too, for everyone reading this. Because really, all we can do is play with the cards we’ve been dealt…a lesson that was prevalent in many ways during tonight’s “tribe swap” episode.
