Monique Samuel’s withdrawal from the Real Housewives of Potomac was marred by ill feelings and unresolved issues between Monique and the rest of the cast. Real Housewives come and go, but this departure was the dramatic conclusion of Monique pinning Candiace Dillard face down into a table by her hair. Some viewers expected Monique to be fired mid-season. Gizelle Bryant, Robyn Dixon, and Wendy Osefo made it clear that they wanted nothing to do with her, but Monique remained for the rest of the season even though her screen time was cut dramatically.
Maybe she wanted to participate in the reunion to share her side of the story. But after feeling slighted by her treatment there, Monique decided to quit. Perhaps, again, in an attempt to be able to speak freely. Unfortunately, Bravo is still allegedly controlling the narrative According to Monique, she was blacklisted by the network and that influence prevented her from doing any press since leaving RHOP.
Praise the Bravo gods — the Real Housewives of Potomac are returning to our TV screens in less than a month. And that means if you’re still somehow sleeping on Potomac, you have a handful of weeks to get caught up and stop looking like a clown. Following last year’s dark season, mainly due to the fight between Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard, the ladies are ready to come back and bring the drama, as always. We know Gizelle Bryant and Wendy Osefo will have quite the feud regarding side-baby rumors about Eddie Osefo. Grand Dame Karen Huger will be back to make outrageous one-liners and always trash Gizelle Bryant. And newbie (and Karen’s new sidekick) Mia Thornton gets into a food fight with Candeegal according to the trailer, which I just can’t wait to see.
Candiace has had her fair share of issues with ladies in the past, particularly Ashley Darby. The new mom-of-two set Candeegal off when she wrote a character statement as part of Moni’s trial. Even before the fight heard around the world, Candiace and Ashley have gotten into serious arguments that may or may not have involved a butter knife. And after the explosive reunion last year, it seems as though they’re not exactly destined to get off on the right foot for Season 6. At least Candiace doesn’t have to worry about Monique snatching her wig on camera anymore.
The current season of the Real Housewives of New York is truly unlike any other. The smaller gang of five women take on the coronavirus pandemic (namely, Ramona Singer’s maskless antics) and a racial reckoning across the country that truly impacted NYC in a significant way. The show FINALLY added its first Black cast member Eboni K. Williams, a friend of Leah McSweeney and a totally badass career woman.
It’s clear as Bravo has started to diversify Real Housewives casts from many cities that the burden is being put on the woman of color who are responsible for educating and correcting the behavior of upper-class white women of privilege. Just look at Tiffany Moon’s first season on the Real Housewives of Dallas or Crystal Kung Minkoff’s first few episodes on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. And honestly, it’s not their job to be the moral compass of the group. Just show me their massive houses and fabulous lifestyles, and let the ladies who can’t get with the program read a book to deal with their own issues.
Last week’s RHONY episode was especially hard to watch. Luann de Lesseps called Eboni “angry” and kicked her out of her house for correctly saying she has more education than her fellow co-stars. The Countess needs a chill pill. I’d understand the outrage if Eboni was trying to be the queen of cabaret or a spokesmodel for Jovani, but that’s not the case.
The Real Housewives of Potomac is truly one of the best cities in the franchise. The women continue to bring it every season, and they’re only just headed into Season 6. Karen Huger is a bonafide OG who can throw shade and entertain like the best of them. Green-eyed bandits Gizelle Bryant and Robyn Dixon always entertain, even if they’re both guilty of stirring the pot. Ashley Darby has been incredibly open about her journey to motherhood and marriage to
shady-ass Michael Darby. The fight between Candiace Dillard-Bassett and Monique Samuels will go down in history, no matter what side your own. If you’re not watching Potomac at this point, you’re likely the dizziest bitch at the table and tacky as hell, to put it in the words of the great Grand Dame herself.
Season 6 of RHOP is headed upon us this summer, and it’s bound to be filled with drama. The first trailer shows that CandeeGal will get into another fight. But instead of throwing fists, she’s throwing salads with newbie Mia Thornton, who apparently has the La Dame stamp of approval. Wendy Osefo will battle cheating and side baby rumors about Eddie Osefo, which he vehemently denies. Gizzy stirs the pot, Ashley deals with having a new baby with Creepy Mikey Darby and Karen screams about her pubic hair. We really couldn’t ask for more from these ladies, they’re a gift to the television world.
Bravo has really given us so many gifts this month it’s hard to keep track. They granted us with the return of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and the Real Housewives of New York. BravoCon 2021 dates were announced after fans didn’t even know if the event would be held this year. And there’s been plenty of drama from Porsha Williams’ engagement to an explosive Real Housewives of New Jersey reunion featuring Melissa Gorga vs. Jennifer Aydin. The network also revealed that the Real Housewives of Potomac would be returning this summer, so needless to say Bravoholics have a lot to look forward to.
And now Bravo has given us another gift — the first RHOP trailer. The Potomac ladies are coming off a dramatic Season 5, with the Candiace Dillard-Bassett vs. Monique Samuels fight. Moni is out for good and new housewife Mia Thornton, a friend of Ashley Darby, is in. Ashley’s tumultuous relationship with Michael Darby is still intact after the couple welcomed a second baby, and I have faith he’ll find a way to mess up again next season.
The Bravo gods are blessing us this summer with new seasons of Real Housewives Of New York, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills AND the Real Housewives of Potomac. And that drama looks like it’s going to be serious in all three cities. It’s really the news we needed after all of the coronavirus shutdowns and delays in filming over the past year.
RHOP has been filming for its sixth season. But this time, Monique Samuels and her binder are not in the mix. The word on the street is some new faces will be joining OGs like Karen Huger, Ashley Darby and Gizelle Bryant. Also, Dr. Wendy Osefo is gearing up for her sophomore season, and it looks like she’ll be handling a few scandals of her own.
Season 5 of Real Housewives of Potomac welcomed their newest Housewife, Dr. Wendy Osefo, into the mix. Wendy joined us with her PhD, three children, and a hawt husband, Eddie Osefo. Eddie and Wendy brought their Nigerian culture and traditions to the Bravo screen. Eddie also brought a lot of calm to the Potomac house-husband dynamic.
During the finale of RHOP, Michael Darby and Chris Bassettt nearly came to blows. Meanwhile, Eddie stuck to the side and stayed out of the entire debacle. A great strategy, to be honest. Unfortunately for Eddie, word on the street is that season 6 won’t be so easy to watch from the sidelines.
It’s been a hot minute since the Real Housewives of Potomac have graced our screens. Season 5 was more than iconic. Let’s not forget the infamous brawl between Monique Samuels and Candiace Dillard. The collision split the remaining cast into two sides. At the time, the then-newest Housewife, Dr. Wendy Osefo, seemingly teamed up with Candiace and the green-eyed bandits.
One of the bandits, Gizelle Bryant, may be regretting her choice in alliance. Since filming wrapped, she has been catching heat from the unofficial #TeamMonique who are spilling tea left and right. To make matters worse, even Andy Cohen has come for Gizelle recently. Never a good sign. Not to mention the newest addition to the RHOP cast, Mia Thornton, has been rumored to have had an affair with another cast member’s husband. Is that more shade directed towards Gizelle and her cease-and-desist happy cheating ex-husband turned rekindled boyfriend? Yikes.
