Just a little over a month after the cancellation of his upcoming wedding, NBA player Matt Barnes has been arrested for domestic violence. The alleged victim? His fiance Gloria Govan.
Cops tell AZCentral that the Basketball Wives star was arrested after they responded to “an incomplete 911 call” from a residence around 4:16 p.m. Though Gloria’s name was not released by the cops, due to laws aimed to protect victims, the cops did confirm the woman as “a woman who lived with him and with whom he had a dating relationship.”
We reported a month ago that Matt and Gloria had began residing in Arizona following Matt’s move from the Orlando Magic to the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent.
Matt, 30, was officially booked into the Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of domestic violence and maliciously obstructing the use of a telephone line. He was released after posting a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 13.
Matt and Gloria’s relationship has always been plagued with cheating rumors, and the abrupt cancellation of their August 21 wedding did not help matters, with people suspecting that there was indeed trouble in paradise.
Matt has since taken to his twitter page to proclaim his innocence. “I was the victim but still got arrested,” he twitted before adding “DON’T LET YOUR EARS WITNESS, WHAT YOUR EYES DIDN’T SEE!!!”
Matt has since deleted the tweet about being the victim. The two are set to appear on the second season of Basketball Wives.

If they arrested him and not her, she must have had a black eye or multiple bruises and/or the police considered the scratches defensive for her not to get arrested.

Shocked to hear the news about the abuse, but not shocked about the cheating rumors. I hate it when women vehemently defend their significant other as if it is virtually impossible for them to cheat. Her castmates tried to warn her, but she insisted on keeping up the front that he wasn’t the type. Wise up girlfriend. NBA players have the name “players” in their title for a reason.
It’s always sad to see domestic violence cases especially when the couple have children. I hope she moves on and doesn’t take him back the way so many women do in situations like this. I’m sure the other women on the show will have a field day with it because that’s just how classless they are. This is a time for them as women to embrace Gloria and be real sisters to her, but they won’t because they’re enjoying her pain and embarassment to much. Needless to say they’re extremely disappointing to watch.
I am not shocked about any of it. She spoke down to Royce who is the most down to earth on the show (yes she’s made some poor decisions but she owns up to it, moves on, and stays true to herself). A woman who gives up her body and her life to a child(ren), and takes care of them doesn’t deserve to be discarded as just a baby mama. Our culture needs to respect the time, energy, love, sacrifice to be a mother. As far as I’m concerned, she is a “wifey”.
As for the show, I think she tried to defend her man, which is the right thing to do. Unfortunately, she came off as arrogant. I could right past all that. I hope she is done having a relationship with this pig, and she goes on to do better for herself.

Thats funny she was claiming that they were the perfect couple on the show now this pops up, whats next? She should have listened to the other housewives because they knew what was going on thru the grape vines lol! Poor Gloria, I wish the best for her and her family, and hope that she has learned from this mistake, or that Matt has learned as well.
