A week after getting engaged, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, 84, and new fiance Crystal Harris, 24, are now gushing about their engagement to PEOPLE magazine.
“We were up in the bedroom,” Crystal tells PEOPLE, “and my favorite movie is The Little Mermaid, so he had the ring in a Little Mermaid box, and that was so special. I opened it and the first thing he said to me was, ‘I hope it fits!’ “
Crystal “is so totally devoted,” Hugh adds. “Her priorities are pretty much our relationship, No. 1 and No. 2 and 3, and you don’t always find that. Despite the age disparity, the truth of the matter is we have a great deal in common, we really complement one another, we have a wonderful time together, and I love her.”
So does the couple plan on having children? “I told my mom I never wanted children. I wanted animals instead, and there are tons of them here,” said Crystal. “If it happens, it happens, but that is not part of the plan,” added Hugh.
PEOPLE also adds that two of Hugh’s former girlfriends and Girls Next Door stars have sent their congrats to him. Kendra Wilkinson tweeted her congratulations to Hugh and Crystal while Bridget Marquart sent ‘I Do’ cupcakes to the couple.
On the other hand, Holly Madison, Hugh’s main squeeze for 7 years, has yet to congratulate the couple or publicly speak out on the engagement. In fact Holly declined to comment on the news during a recent interview over the weekend.
And while Crystal tells PEOPLE that Holly plans to say “hi” during her upcoming visit to the Playboy mansion on Wednesday (she is going there to film a segment for her E! reality show Holly’s World), the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that Holly, 31, is “very upset” about the engagement news.
As reported, Holly ended her relationship with Hugh after 7 years of dating because Hugh told her he never wanted to get married or have children again. “She can’t believe Crystal was able to get Hef to agree to something she had tried for so long,” said a source to the Sun-Times.
Sources also tell the newspaper that it is unlikely Hugh will actually walk down the aisle with Crystal, adding that this will likely be a long-term Hollywood engagement. And if Hugh does indeed end up marrying Crystal, she can expect a very tight prenup. “That prenup will be tighter than Cher’s most recent facelift!” said a source close to Hugh. Ouch.
As for the engagement ring, Crystal tweeted a picture of it last week. That picture is below. UsWeekly estimates the ring is a “3 1/2 carat brilliant-cut diamond set in platinum with micro pave diamonds the band” and is worth an estimated $90,000.

gross i’m pretty sure that they might not get marry he is old enough to be her great great grandpa. for holly i think she should get over hugh she is a beautiful young lady she dont need a old bag no disrespect to hugh but he is to old to try to marry and he children if thats physicaly possible…………just saying

Holly was nauseating with her constant needling of Hef during the GND series to get married and have babies. I’ll bet she is mad, but she’s too dumb to see the difference between her relationship with Hef, and Crystal’s relationship wtih Hef. Crystal doesn’t want kids! Hef is no idiot, my dear Holly & Crystal….although you and all the other Playboy girlfriends seem to think you are outsmarting the old fool, he’s no fool – he’s crazy like a fox and you are all the ones being played. Hef is truly the granddaddy of all playas, rock on Hef!
I think it’s a publicity stunt. Playboy isn’t doing very well and this will refocus some attention on the brand.
I predict Crystal on the cover of the next Playboy….the cover will say “Crystal in nothing but her engagement ring”. I agree it’s all publicity. Although I will give Crystal props for making Hef boot all the other girlfriends….Holly always had to share.

This is pretty gross. I’m wondering why the article assumes that Crystal got Heff to agree to marriage, whereas Holly couldn’t. Maybe Crystal never brought it up, nagged him or expected it and THAT’s why he wanted to marry her. Just a guess as this is so classic – they pass up the one expecting marriage saying they won’t ever marry and then propose to the next one that comes along.
If I were Holly I wouldn’t comment either. No need really and what do the expect her to say? I mean really.
Crystal is one smart cookie. Of course she is saying she doesn’t want babies – she’s only 24. By the time she is ready, Hef will be 6 feet under.
Poor Holly, she’s jealous. Now she’s out in Vegas working 6 nights a week instead of lounging and strutting around the Playboy Mansion like she’s Queen Bee!

I totally agree in seriously doubting Holly is jealous, I’m sure that was scripted and all a part of her “character” for GND. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure she would have jumped at the chance and married him if asked, just for a piece of the estate hoping he’d kick the bucket. But the GFs have a business arragement with Hef–they have a contract spelling out the terms of their relationship and everything–these are not love matches.
I have often wondered if the rumors about Holly having a clause in her contract to some of the frozen sperm upon his death with the child getting no expectation or rights to inheritance , etc. is true? Doesn’t sound like it would be legally binding.

I was a huge fan of the show and I liked Holly, I mean we all know that Holly was with him cause he is rich just like his fiance he has now. But Holly devoted over 7 years of her life to him and was a devoted hard working girlfriend, and he gives a ring to some girl thats been there what like two years? Thats pretty low of Hef, Holly deserved that ring not Crystal.
