In Touch Weekly is reporting that 2-year-old Leah, who has witnessed Amber and her dad Gary Shirley get into a number of violent outbursts, is now starting to act out.
The first problem is Amber’s absence. As you know, Amber, who attempted suicide on June 14, is now in a rehab program in Malibu, California getting treatment for anger management and depression. Well Leah hasn’t been reacting well to Amber not being around.
Amber’s brother, Shawn Portwood, tells In Touch that Leah desperately clings to his girlfriend whenever they visit. “Because she can’t see my sister, she’s looking for that female figure,” he says. But without Amber around, Leah is beginning to act out. “She throws fits and bites and hits other children,” a family insider tells In Touch. “She can be a wild little girl.”
Even worse for Leah, her dad Gary, who has custody, hasn’t been around much, either. “Gary rarely spends time with Leah. Instead, he’s out at the bars almost every night,” a friend tells In Touch, adding that Gary bragged about hooking up with lots of different girls while downing drinks at his local Anderson, Ind., strip club, Hoosier Girls, on July 20.
With Amber in rehab and Gary, 24, letting loose, his mother Carol is the one caring for Leah though sources say Carol is hardly the stable parent little Leah so desperately needs. Fortunately, Amber seems to be making improvements in rehab according to her brother Shawn. “She is doing better. She is working out, kickboxing and has a whole new routine,” says Shawn.
Shawn adds that Amber could remain in treatment for up to two more months, stating that when she returns home, she can finally focus on what’s truly important: giving her daughter the stable life she herself never had. Shawn also reveals Amber is considering moving to Nashville to live near him once out of rehab to get away from all the negative influences in Indiana. Shawn believes Gary is a negative influence on Amber.
