Following the tragic passing of Shain Gandee, the 21-year-old star of the show BUCKWILD, MTV has decided to pull the plug on the short lived redneck reality series.

Last week MTV announced they were temporarily suspending filming for season 2 to let cast members heal. Filming was to possibly resume after Shain's funeral. However a network source confirms to Deadline that the show is formally and officially kaput in the wake of several scandals and the unfortunate passing of Shain.

MTV confirms the cancellation in a statement and promises that Shain will be honored in a special tribute.

"After careful consideration, MTV will not be moving forward with season two of 'Buckwild' in West Virginia. We love the cast and the show and this was not an easy decision, but given Shain's tragic passing and essential presence on the show, we felt it was not appropriate to continue without him. Instead, we are working on a meaningful way to pay tribute to his memory on our air and privately."

"On Sunday, we will be running a special, 'Buckwild: WV to the NYC,' which was shot before production had begun on season two. With the support of his parents, Dale and Loretta Gandee, we will run the tribute following a day of programming dedicated to Shain in which we will air the entire first season of 'Buckwild.' "

Additionally with Salwa Amin facing felony drug charges and several WV politicians protesting the show there was too much scandal surrounding the show.

A previous report speculated that advertisers and other product companies were wary of the show in the wake of all the issues.
