American Idol

There was not a dull moment on American Idol’s elimination results show Thursday night, in what some are calling the craziest Idol episode ever.

In a round of events no one could have predicted, Casey Abrams found himself in the bottom three alongside Thia Megia, not so surprising, and Stefano Langone, which was a little surprising.

Ultimately, Casey was the one who received the least amount of votes, thus having to sing for his life in the hopes of a last-minute save from judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

About 25 seconds into singing “Don’t Need No Doctor,” the judges cut Casey’s’ song short, letting him know they needed to hear no more. He was being saved. “We know who you are, Casey,” said Randy. “We don’t need to hear you sing anymore, do we Steven?” “We made a decision to keep you on,” added Steven.

“Are you kidding, are you kidding,” muttered 20-year-old Casey over and over, appearing very stunned and almost on the verge of collapse, before staggering over to the judges’ table to thank them.

And just like that, the judges used their one and only save of the season, which means with 11 contestants still remaining, no one else can be saved. This has left some wondering if the judges were right in their decision to use the judge’s save now. Next week, two of the contestants will be getting the boot instead of just one.

TELL US – WERE THE JUDGES RIGHT IN USING THEIR SAVE ON CASEY?

It was elimination night on American Idol Thursday and not surprisingly, 21-year-old New Yorker Karen Rodriguez got the boot.

Following the performances of songs from the year they were born the previous night, the top 12 contestants learned their fate with a bottom 3 that included Naima Adedapo, Haley Reinhart and Karen.

The judges ultimately decided against using their “save” on Karen, even though she gave a good performance of Mariah Carey’s “Hero.” Judge Randy Jackson admitted the decision was not unanimous, and judging from Jennifer Lopez’s reaction, it was pretty obvious she wanted to save Karen.

Meanwhile, JLo had her own problems last night as she was the target of some catcalls via two members of the audience who took issue with what they saw as her flirting with contestant Stefano Langone. According to E!, two ladies yelled to Jennifer, “You’re married!” and pointed out her husband Marc Anthony in the audience. As for Jlo, she didn’t react to the words from the two women while some people sitting near the yellers appeared taken aback.

And as of this morning, some fans of the show now feel perhaps Naima, who has been repeatedly criticized for her “pitchy” vocals, should have been the one to get the axe instead of Karen. “I’m beginning to have a passionate hate for the word ‘pitchy,’ ” said Naima to Ryan. “And by the time this is done I will love the word ‘pitch,’ and we will be in perfect harmony.”

While the jury’s remains out on whether or not Naima should have been the one eliminated, one thing’s clear – the viewers got it right this week with the bottom three.

Let the competition begin!

Just like that, we are now one step closer to finding the ultimate American Idol for season 10. Last night, the show narrowed down the 24 finalists to the top 13. The full list - Jacob Lusk, Haley Reinhart, Thia Megia, (back row) Lauren Alaina, Stefano Langone, Naima Adedapo, Karen Rodriguez, Ashthon Jones, James Durbin, Scotty McCreery, Pia Toscano, (front) Paul McDonald and Casey Abrams.

The show began last night with Ryan Seacrest introducing the Top 24 while also announcing that after the cuts are made, the judges will ask some of the eliminated contestants to sing for a wild-card spot. “It’s going to be a tough night for us,” said judge Jennifer Lopez.

Entertainment Tonight also reports that the judges, who were only supposed to pick 2 wildcards, simply couldn’t narrow it down. “They didn’t make a final decision to make it 13 until the end,” said Ryan.

“We saw so many talented kids we didn’t know what we were going to quite do,” Randy Jackson explained. “I’m still thinking about it,” said Jlo. “I’m like, ‘Did we do the right thing? Did we put the right people in?’”

Meanwhile, Jlo, who would have never made it to the Hollywood round had she tried out for the show, is making certain to use the show to restart her stale music career. Her new music video, “On The Floor”, premiered last night while the judges were mulling over the wild card performances. That video is below -

Casey Abrams, the American Idol finalist who was hospitalized last Wednesday will get to stay on the show reports TMZ.

Casey, who was hospitalized after complaining of severe stomach pains was apparently in danger of being sent home due to his illness. The reason? He was very close to missing Friday’s taping of the top 12 males — something all contestants are required to participate in to remain on the show.

Good news came for Casey as he was able to make the Friday tapings after receiving a blood transfusion at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is not expected to return to the hospital.

And above is the official photo of the top 24 contestants: Top row (L-R) Kendra Chantelle, Jovani Barreto, Lauren Turner, Casey Abrams, Tatynisa Wilson, James Durbin, Karen Rodriguez, Jacob Lusk, Lauren Alaina, Thia Megia, Scott McCreery, Brett Loewenstern, Pia Toscano and Jordan Dorsey. Bottom row (L-R): Rachel Zevita, Stefano Langone, Paul McDonald, Julie Zorrilla, Tim Halperin, Haley Reinhart, Clint Jun Gamboa, Robbie Rosen, Naima Adedapo and Ashthon Jones.

The next episode of American Idol airs Tuesday at 8/7c on FOX.

American Idol fans saw judge Jennifer Lopez break down Wednesday night as she informed Illinois native Chris Medina that he did not make the top 24 contestants.

“It was just honestly a pleasure to meet someone like you,” a teary Jlo 41, told Chris, 26. “It was a blessing and a moment in my life I’ll always remember. Jennifer then got even more emotional “I just didn’t want to tell him no,” a sobbing J.Lo expressed. “I felt so bad.”

Jennifer continued to sob despite being consoled by her fellow judges Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson. “I didn’t feel like I told him in the right way,” she said. “You did it in the best way possible,” consoled Randy.

Chris wowed the judges and viewers during the audition rounds, not only due to his voice but also due to his personal story of his paraplegic fiance. Chris’s fiance Juliana Ramos was in a car accident that left her with brain damage two months before they were set to be married.

“What kind of guy would I be if I walked out when she needed me the most?” said Chris during his first audition. But despite getting emotional upon hearing the news that he would not be part of the top 24, Chris vowed to focus on his music and his fiance.

“I’m going to go home and keep writing music,” Chris said. “I’m going to take care of my fiancée and make a miracle happen.”

And despite his elimination for AI, Chris’s story does seem to have a bit of a happy ending as fans have donated a handicapped van, a home furnace and more than $29,000 to his girlfriend. Plus Chris is also scheduled to perform on The Tonight Show this Friday.

Following two major commercials on Sunday’s Superbowl, Simon Cowell is now revealing more details about the upcoming reality show – The X Factor (the American version).

While the full list of judges has yet to be selected, Simon does confirm he will be a judge on the show. “Once the show goes into production, I become a judge,” Simon told reporters Monday. “Then I have to put my trust into the producers’ hands, which is effectively how it works in the U.K. Yes, I am judging.”

Simon will also serve as an executive producer on the show, while helping in the selection of the judging panel. Nicole Scherzinger, Jessica Simpson, Paula Abdul, Rihanna, Cheryl Cole, Katy Perry and Will Smith are just some of the names that have been rumored as possible judges on the show.

So should we expect a nicer Simon on this new show? “I am gong to try and be consistent, as I have been over the years … People know what to expect if I’m on the judging panel. I don’t think things will change too much,” he said. We’ll take that as a no.

As for Simon’s thoughts or critique rather on the current and 10th season of American Idol, Simon reveals he is not an avid watcher. “I haven’t seen a full episode. I’ve seen three minutes of a recap. From what I’ve seen and from what I’ve heard, it all seems to be going well.”

According to Simon, he is hoping to make the announcement of the judges in three to four weeks. The winner of X Factor will also be awarded a $5 million record deal, in what is being called the largest guaranteed prize in TV history.

Following Simon Cowell’s exit from American Idol, many predicted it would lead to the show’s demise that is until new judge Steven Tyler stepped into the picture, winning rave reviews from fans, and even being credited by some as saving the show.

And now according to a new report by Popeater, fellow judge Jennifer Lopez is not happy Steven’s getting all the attention. “This was meant to be Jennifer’s big comeback,” an insider reveals. “The entire re-branding of the show was built around her, but now it’s all about Steven 24/7.”

The insider adds that Jlo, who is used being lavished with a lots of attention, is getting irritated with people always asking her about Steven.

“She’s mystified at how this happened and has made it very clear to the producers that the cameras need to spend a little more time adoring Jennifer’s favorite idol — herself!”

A new episode of AI airs tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

TELL US – THOUGHTS ON THIS STORY? WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE IDOL JUDGE?

A number of critics have panned the new season of American Idol, but did the audience also tune out?

Well, it seems at least some of them did. According to an AP report, the ratings for AI are down this season from the previous year. While the premiere episode was one of the most watched television shows of the year, averaging a total of 26.2 million viewers, it was still down 13% from the nearly 30 million who watched last season’s opener.

The decline continued onto the second episode of the season, averaging 22.6 million viewers.

Season 10 officially made it’s debut Wednesday, January 19 with a two-hour opener which was mostly dedicated to showcasing the new judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, who joined the sole returning judge Randy Jackson.

And following two weeks of auditions, some are wondering if these new set of judges are simply not Simon Cowell too soft as a high number of contestants were reportedly let through to go to Hollywood.

“I’m beginning to see why the Hollywood Week group was so large this year (a reported 325),” Brian Mansfield of USA Today wrote. “This group of judges are a much softer touch than previous crews. They’re much more likely to put somebody through on the strength of their personalities. Simon would have shut 75 percent of those people down.”

Critic Emily Yahr of the Washington Post stated the “same dramatic music, same talk about making people’s dreams come true, same sob stories with predictable tickets to Hollywood. It’s comforting, or it’s a snoozefest — take your pick.” Interesting.
