American Idol is dead set on four judges for the upcoming season because it worked so well the last time, presumably to compete with newer and hipper singing competitions like The Voice and The X Factor, so there is still one vacant spot.
Still, the end might be near, because Enrique Iglesias is currently sitting on an offer from American Idol for about $4 million. Coincidentally, Enrique just wrapped up a tour with former Idol judge Jennifer Lopez.
This American Idol drama will never end, it seems! Randy Jackson will reportedly not be returning to the show this season – at least not as a judge.
Randy is out, but there's a 99% chance he'll be returning as a mentor during the season.
Another bit of news is that they are definitely adding a fourth judge to the table. Now that leaves three open spots, with Mariah Carey being the only new judge to have signed on the dotted line so far.
American Idol sure is milking this empty judge chair situation for all its worth! A new day, a new rumor surrounding who will be signed on in the last(?) remaining seat. Let’s recap the rumored judges so far: Brad Paisley, Nick Jonas, Pharrell, and P.Diddy. And I’m probably forgetting a few! If anything, it’s been a great way to bring publicity to each of the rumored musicians, as well as the show.
The latest news is that Nicki Minaj is just about to sign on the dotted line. Us Weekly claims to have two sources verifying that Nicki’s deal is a sure thing. “I’m not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it. A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening.”
Mariah Carey and Nicki? I’m just not sure if there’s enough room for both egos at that table? Do you think she’s been ‘in the game’ long enough to be of value to the show?
While Kara DioGuardi has remained mum since news of her firing from American Idol made headlines weeks ago, her dad is now speaking out on her behalf and what he had to say is a bit shocking.
Kara’s dad, Republican senate candidate Joe DioGuardi, told Capital Tonight that Kara found out about her firing the same way the public did – from reading about it.
“She read it the way you did and I did,” said Joe. “Would you believe she did not hear — and still has not heard — anything?”
Joe added, “Her disappointment is that that’s the way she’s being treated and she feels that’s not proper. I think they’re trying to create a lot of buzz… they’re trying to reformat the thing.”
Though Fox has yet to publicly confirm the firing, TMZ and multiple reputable media outlets broke the news on July 30. Yikes.
In other Idol news, TMZ also reported AI was negotiating a deal with Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith’s Steven Tylerto be the replacement judges. News however broke a week ago that negotiations with Jlo fell through due to her many diva demands.
However, TMZ is reporting AI is still in talks with Jlo, but they do have a back up plan in case the talks fall through. The back up plan? None other than Shania Twain. TMZ refers to the country star as “plan B.”
TELL US – WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE WAY KARA FOUND OUT SHE WAS FIRED? WHO DO YOU WANT AS A JUDGE? JLO OR SHANIA TWAIN?
Fox recently announced the ninth season of America Idolwill premiere on Tuesday, January 12 at 8pm ET/PT. The season will premiere for two consecutive nights with a two-hour broadcast on Tuesday and a one-hour broadcast on Wednesday, January 13 at 8PM ET/PT.
The auditions for American Idol took place over the summer and featured several guest judges in Paula’s spot including Victoria Beckham in Denver and Boston, Mary J. Blige in Atlanta, Joe Jonas and Neil Patrick Harris in Dallas, Kristin Chenoweth inOrlando, Shania Twain in Chicago, and Katy Perry and Avril Lavigne in Los Angeles.
In other Idol news, Kris Allen’s self titled album dropped at No. 11 on The Billboard 200 album sales chart after selling only 80,000 copies during its week of release, according to Nielsen Soundscan data. This is the lowest of any idol winner ever recorded. Before Kris, Jordin Sparks, sixth season winner previously held the record for lowest album sales and sold 119,000 copies in first week release in November 2007.
Those figures are especially low compared to the 198,000 albums sold by runner up, Adam Lambert, who has remained in the headlines due to his recent raunchy performance at the American Music Awards.
Even though Paula Abdul is leaving the show, American Idolwill still have four judges, Fox chairman Peter Rice told the FOX Television Critics Association on Thursday.
“There is going to be a search,” he said. The search is for a permanent replacement, while there will be guest judges taking her place during the auditions.
According to Peter, the producers “were hoping” Abdul would come back. “We love Paula. She’s been a really wonderful part of the show for eight years.”
Sources say that Paula asked for a $20 million deal which producers were unwilling to meet. She also rejected a thirty percent raise.
According to FOX, guest judges including Victoria Beckham and Katy Perry will join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi in the seven weeks of audition rounds, which starts Friday in Denver.
“We’ll have these guest judges do one week each during the audition [period]… there is no thought right now that any of these judges will be long term judge for us,” Rice said. “All of the people we are talking to have successful careers. I don’t even think they’d be available to judge full-time. We have now until January to introduce a new energy to the panel.”
There are also rumors that Kandi Burruss of The Real Housewives of Atlanta is being considered as a judge, but those are simply rumors for now.
Kara DioGuardi is confirming her time is up as a judge on American Idol after this season. The reason being that Kara only signed on to do one season.
Kara tells TV Guide “I’m only here for one season,” she says. “That’s what we’ve discussed. So we’ll see what happens. Hopefully they’ll keep me on.”
Simon Cowell was also asked on whether or not Kara would be back next season, he said, “I would imagine so, but the only say I have is about Ryan, Randy and Paula. I’ve always made it clear that I wouldn’t like to do the show without them. So that’s all I’m really concerned about.” Interesting comment by Simon, it might be safe to say Kara won’t be coming back next season.

Ok Magazine is reporting that the two female judges on American Idol, Kara DioGuardi and Paula Abdul are alledgedly at war with each other. And their tension is all stemming from the fact that they are both in danger of losing their jobs next season.
“The plan to add a fourth person backfired,” an Idol insider told OK! about the troubles that have been mounting since Kara joined the cast at the beginning of this season. “Now the producers are left with a tough decision: Do they go back to the original three-judge format, or leave Kara there?”
Paula had previously taken a snipe at Kara when she talked to OK in January saying, “Kara and I get along great and have known each other for years, but we tried four judges before when we had celebrity guest judges sitting in, and it just doesn’t work.” Kara hit back in a statement: “Paula has a right to her opinions, but I was disappointed by her comments and hurt that she did not address them to me in person.”
