“The ladies embark on a whirlwind journey of breakups, make-ups, milestone birthdays, vacations, and even a wedding,” says TLC. “Just when all the codes of gypsy culture seem apparent, they break the rules and undergo shocking transformations in the most jaw-dropping season of Gypsy Sisters yet.”
Nettie, Mellie, JoAnn, Kayla, and Annie are back, and according to TLC, they’re bigger, badder, and better than ever. No doubt, The Learing Channel at its finest. Season two castmember Sheena turned down an offer to return. Find out what the Gypsy Sisters have been up to and see a sneak peek below.
Normally I would argue that seven episodes was not enough for a season, but the level of catastrophic drama that these women were able to squeeze in seven episodes, I think I would be kind of scared to think what we would have witnessed had anymore aired. I mean how can you top; weddings, pregnancies, teen romance, paternity scandals, bachelorette parties, jail sentences, hospital visits, violent outbursts, family in and out the slammer, MIA parents and annulments to name just a few of the standout moments.. But more than anything we have seen these Gypsy Sisters; fight, smack talk, threaten, cuss, bitch and bicker like they are at war with one another.. and nothing is off limits during a Gypsy feud my friends! Did I mention the cussing?!
My new favorite reality family has quickly become the KardashianStanley Sisters. Gypsy Sisters has quickly found a special place in my heart and I can’t put my finger on whether it’s their general lack of a filter that makes them seem authentic and genuine or whether it’s because the strange and alluring life of a Gypsy that I have a general lack of knowledge on or maybe it’s because I have finally found a family that appears even more crazy and irrational than mine! Either way, these girls entertain the hell out of me with their hilarious one liners, over the top rituals and crazy parties! Move over Kevin Lee, Gypsy party planners are taking over!
So we start with a flash back to a miserable Mellie Stanley on her wedding day, falling down the aisle. Kaylagives wonderful words of encouragement starts placing bets on how long the happy couple will last. Kayla thinks Mellie won’t last 3 weeks let alone 72 days, snaps for Kimmie Kakes!
We now arrive at the hospital, Mellie has been sick for the past 2 weeks and that’s not all she’s sick of. Apparently she’s sick of her marriage, too. She announces that her marriage to Robbie lasted a grueling 6 days. I guess Kayla wasn’t actually too far off the mark with her prediction whilst she outlasted Nettie’s prediction of 24 hours. Mellie explains Robbie was going out partying and possibly cheating while she was at home living with her new in-laws, which you know, is a totally normal living arrangement. Call me crazy, but maybe these things like living arrangements should have been addressed before the holy moment of saying ‘I do’.
I remember a much simpler time when TLC was all about stories. There was A Makeover Story (fun fact: The Office's Angela Kinsey and her friend from an improv group were once on it before she became famous), A Dating Story, A Wedding Story, and (the only one still left) A Baby Story. Sure, it was a really long time ago, but The Learning Channel didn't used to be all about scary pageant moms, wedding dress salons, and Gypsy Sisters getting kicked out of hot pink stretch limos and tanning with motor oil. The only thing I learn from the network these days is how to make Here Comes Honey Boo Boo's sketti. I must add that my boyfriend Clinton Kelly calls TLC home, so he's bringing the class.
Now TLC is just ninety minutes up the coast from where I reside, in what may be South Carolina's version of the Jersey Shore. That's right! The Learning Channel has landed in Myrtle Beach, or "The Dirtle" as many call it. Don't get me wrong, Myrtle Beach is all kinds of fun and has a little of everything. It's like a tiny Vegas with a Planet Hollywood, a Hard Rock Cafe, and a giant shopping/restaurant/bar/music venue that spans city blocks and includes everything from Medieval Times to a mini Grand Ol' Opry that features singers who look just like actual country stars. Add in the helicopter tours and a shop on every corner that sells over priced beach towels, shark tooth necklaces, and hermit crabs, and you've got a little slice of heaven in the Palmetto State. Don't take my word for it–you can now see for yourself on TLC's new series Welcome to Myrtle Manor. Joking aside, I have friends from Myrtle Beach who are none too thrilled at the idea that this show is potentially mocking their hometown.
As if West Virginia didn't have enough of an issue with the kids from Buckwild, now TLC is bringing us Gypsy Sisters from the hills of Martinsburg. We first met Mellie on My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding as the stripper with a heart of gold penchant for violence. Now she's joined by her older sister Nettie, cousin Kayla, and friend Laura. Admittedly, I am fascinated with the gypsy culture.
The show follows the four women and their families, as they bling, tat, clean, tan, and engage in vicious fist fights. Ah, yes, The Learning Channel at it's finest. I am glad to see that it's keeping up with all of the other high brow reality networks. That said, I will totally be watching this madness. It's like the Bad Girls Club, but with gypsies! And just wait until you hear what Nettie's grandchildren are named. You just can't make this up, people…you. just. can't. The show premieres on TLC at 9PM ET on Sunday February 10th.
