The Bachelor’s Jason Mesnick: Molly Gave Up Bachelorette For Me

Former Bachelor star, Jason Mesnick and his new fiance Molly Malaney are gracing this week’s cover of US Weekly magazine.

The coupon discusses their engagement details, as well as the hardships they had to go through in their relationship. Jason famously dumped his former fiance, Melissa Rycroft, on national television to begin dating Molly.

When asked why he dumped Melissa, Jason reveals, “Melissa is a great girl, but there wasn’t any chemistry,” he admits. “So I broke up with her after Christmas, about a month after we wrapped.”

Jason admits the controversial After the Final Rose taping wasn’t the ideal time or place to try to rekindle things with Molly and win her back. “Obviously, I didn’t want it all on TV, but I had to take the chance if it meant getting her back. I’d rather have picked up the phone, trust me!”

Jason goes on to reveal a somewhat surprising tidbit when he says Molly gave up being the next Bachelorette to be with him. He tells US that show producers — a week after his ill-fated proposal to Melissa — “kept asking me if I thought Molly would make a good Bachelorette.”

He however realized he was “not willing to let Molly go on TV and have 25 guys fight over her.” If Jason’s story is to be believed, this would mean Jillian Harris was the third choice to be the Bachelorette, as Melissa also declined an opportunity to do the show.
