Following many millions earned and many years of successful numerous endorsements, it seems the Kardashians sisters have hit a major bump with their latest effort to branch into financing.
Just 3 weeks after announcing their endorsement deal with mastercard for their own prepaid debit card – Kardashian Kard — the three sisters, Khloe, Kim & Kourtney, have officially pulled the plug on the deal.
According to TMZ, the Keeping Up With The Kardashian stars sent out a “Notice of Termination” to the companies behind the card on Monday afternoon — stating that they’re sick of the “negative spotlight” after the Attorney General of Connecticut opened an investigation to determine if the card violates consumer protection laws.
The “Kardashian Kard” includes a picture of the trio on one side and was aimed at young adults. It immediately came under attack after the hidden fees were revealed to the public. For example, It costs $59.95 just to buy the card for six months, or $99.95 for 12 months. Which doesn’t include any money on the card as the card owner was responsible for adding money to it.
Unfortunately, the fees did not end there as after those six or 12 months are up, it then costs $7.95 a month to keep using the card. Users also had to pay $1.50 to withdraw cash from an ATM, and $1 to check their balance. Talking to a customer representative? $1.50 for each call, and canceling the card costs $6.
And oh yeah, losing the card also results in a charge of $9.95. Ultimately, consumers lost money before even getting the chance to use the card. In the letter obtained by TMZ, the Kardashian lawyers wrote, “The Kardashians have worked extremely long and hard to create a positive public persona that appeals to everyone, particularly young adults,” before adding that the investigation “threatens everything for which [The Kardashians] have worked.”
Those who have the card still have up to 30 days to continue using it. Once the 30 days are over, they would receive refunds of balances and up-front fees.
