Ladies of London Star Marissa Hermer Explains Dual-Citizenship: “I…AM British”! Plus, Defends Taking Baths with Girlfriends!

People have accused Marissa Hermer of wanting to be a lot of things on this season’s Ladies of London: upper crust, in Annabelle Neilson’s social circle, Caroline Stanbury’s #1 bestie…the list may go on. But wanting to be British may be at the top of that list, with castmate (and former close friend) Juliet Angus claiming Marissa is obsessed with ditching her American heritage in favor of her London lifestyle.

So, how’s this for an answer? Marissa says she already is British! “I’m not surprised to hear that Juliet denigrates me,” shares Marissa, “but the fact of the matter is that I’ve lived in London for 10 years – I fell in love in London, married a British man, have British children, opened a business here, and now have dual-citizenship – so though I still have my American citizenship, I also have my British citizenship, and therefore actually AM British.”

Marissa defends, “At this point in my life, I’m very happy to adapt to my surroundings – and actually it is a wonderful adventure. Juliet criticizes me for embracing British culture but I actually believe that loving where you are living – wherever that is – and enjoying your life as it is – can only be a positive thing. It works for me.”

Okay, okay – so we get the dual citizenship thing (although she may be missing the larger point of Juliet accusing her of being a “wannabe”). But what many don’t get is Marissa’s love of baths with girlfriends! Last episode, we witnessed Marissa and Julie Montagu get cozy in a shared bubble bath before dinner. Marissa claims this is totes normal! (Maybe it’s a dual citizenship thing?!)

Marissa jokes, “I love taking baths with my girlfriends – I know, maybe it sounds crazy, but its true. It is basically like a jacuzzi (when there isn’t a jacuzzi). I went to college in Vermont and when it was FREEZING, my roommates and I would all jump in the bathtub together to warm up, have some bubbly, and gossip before we went out at night. I’m now learning that it isn’t totally normal…but I don’t care, it’s fun!”

What didn’t seem normal to Marissa was how upset Caroline Fleming still was (on the pheasant shoot) over the cougar comments at bowling night, considering Caroline “had previously accepted my apology on a couple of occasions.” Marissa explains, “I had called Caroline immediately after bowling to sincerely apologise to her and also I went over to her house prior to the shooting weekend, where we talked and she said everything was fine with us.”  (Really? We’re exchanging the American ‘z” in ‘apologize’ for the British ‘s’ now? Again, a dual citizenship thing? <side eye>)

Marissa continues, “So when Julie told me in the bath that she was ‘going to let me have it,’ and was clearly still upset, I was surprised.” Despite her surprise, Marissa decided to have a talk with Caroline that evening over dinner whether Caroline liked it or not

Marissa claims that things are good now between Caroline and her, though. She writes in her blog, “I care a lot about Caroline Fleming and her family and I felt terrible that I had offended her and was thankful to hear that she wanted to move on. Since then, we have moved on and are now great friends and allies.” Well, we’ve got some ground to cover this season before we get to this good place, it seems. If previews of next week’s Denmark trip drama are any indicator, the Baroness doesn’t look to be in a “good place” with more than a few of the ladies!
