90 Day Fiance: The Other Way Recap: Sticks And Stones

Last night’s episode of 90 Day Fiance The Other Way showed the Americans struggle to get adjusted to their new lives in a new country. For most, their significant other’s family is complicating a relationship that is already on life support. I couldn’t imagine trying to make things work someone I barely know while battling with a language barrier. I’m sorry, but I’m tired of watching them break out that translator device, only for it to cause further confusion. Tim Clarkson is the only one who has even attempted to learn the language of country he moved to.

Armando Rubio‘s first attempt at PDA ends badly. Ariela Weinberg questions her decision to live in Ethiopia after her mother leaves. Deavan Clegg attempts to improve her relationship with Jihoon Lee ‘s mom.  Tim has a troubling job interview. Brittany Banks and Yazan Abo Horira clash over her social media. Let’s get straight to the recap!

Deavan, 22 (Salt Lake City, Utah) & Jihoon, 29 (South Korea)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way: Sticks and Stones

Deavan travels to Jihoon’s parents’ house to get ready for her son’s first 100 days of life celebration. This is a common party due to the number of babies who died in Korea, before they made it to this benchmark in the past. Things are already off to a bad start when Deavan and her mother-in-law are forced to spend time in the kitchen cooking for the party. It’s no secret neither of them each other’s biggest fans. Mama Jihoon lets Deavan know she doesn’t expect anything from her but to say hello. The shade!

Deavan’s mom, Elicia arrives at the party ready to put her differences with Jihoon aside for one day. Who knows what the next day will bring, but at least she is willing to have truce even if it’s temporary. Although Deavan and the family look stunning in her traditional garb, she still worries she won’t be accepted by Jihoon’s extended family. The party goes well and Deavan even manages to gain the approval of everyone. Maybe Mama Jihoon’s advice came in handy. The family only saw a pretty well-mannered young woman and not her angry side.

Ariela, 28 (Princeton, New Jersey) and Biniyam, 29 (Ethiopia)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way: Sticks and Stones

It’s Ariela’s mother, Janice’s last day in Ethiopia. Ariela is doing everything in power, not to lose it. Once they arrive at the airport, the flood gates open.  Janice reminds her daughter to think positively. That is going to be hard when they have to check out of that hotel and return to the apartment that has a bathroom that also moonlights as a shoe closet.  Ariela is finally realizing the full weight of her decision to live in a foreign country away from her family. She is under a great amount of pressure not to repeat Biniyam’s past with his first child’s mother.

Ariela confesses to Biniyam that she feels alone and overwhelmed now that her mother is gone. He sweetly assures her he will be her best friend in her mother’s absence. Obviously, she doesn’t consider her baby’s daddy a good stand in. She tells him she isn’t looking forward to being alone with him because they barely know each other. Umm, shouldn’t you have thought of that before you got pregnant and moved to another country? I felt so bad when Biniyam begs her not to leave him. Hopefully Ariela will start to feel better as she gets adjusted to her new life. But something tells me this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Kenneth, 57 (St. Petersburg, Florida) and Armando 31, (Mexico)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way: Sticks and Stones

Armando takes Kenneth and his daughters to a local taco stand for dinner. While there, Kenneth suffers from culture shock when he is forced to use a disgusting bathroom. He can’t believe he has to manually flush the toilet with a bucket of water.  When they return to the table, they laugh about the situation only for a man to walk by and call them a homophobic slur. Kenneth’s daughter is so angry she is brought to tears. Despite all the progress Armando has made recently, it only takes one comment to ruin it. This is what he has feared his entire life. Armando is hurt, embarrassed and sad that he still can’t live freely. Kenneth on the other hand doesn’t want to give anyone the power to make them feel uncomfortable. Sadly, I think it’s going to take quite some time before Armando gets to the same level of comfort that Kenneth has already achieved.

Tim, 34 (Dallas, Texas) and Melyza, 29 (Colombia)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way: Sticks and Stones

Tim is taking the first step to prove to Melyza he is serious about starting a life in Columbia, by looking for a job. His first blunder is calling a taxi that ends up being a motorcycle. Eventually he finds his way to his interview and it’s a disaster. Besides struggling with the language, he learns he doesn’t have the proper documents to obtain a job. I find it hard to believe he had no idea he needed to be married or have a work visa. I may be wrong, but Tim doesn’t seem like the type of guy who doesn’t think things out before making a huge decision. Maybe it was all a part of his plan considering he never let go of his job or house in the states. Personally, I don’t blame him, Melyza is as frigid as ice.

Brittany, 26 (Palm Beach, Florida) and Yazan, 24 (Jordan)

90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way: Sticks and Stones

Now that Yazan and Brittany no longer have the pressure of getting married hanging over their head, they have been enjoying each other’s company. That happiness is short lived when a member of Yazan’s family views Brittany’s social media and claims to have seen her naked. Yazan gets so upset that he threatens not to marry her. When Brittany refuses to close her social media accounts an argument and text war ensues throughout the night. The next day, they both decide to work things out. Apparently, the “naked” picture was of her in a bikini where her assets are on full display. I’m surprised Yazan’s family has not rescinded their blessing for this marriage yet. Although pictures like this are common in America, it’s downright scandalous for a devout Muslim family. As if they aren’t in enough trouble, she even tries to entice him to spend the night with her. Luckily, Yazan held strong, these two don’t need another scandal.

TELL US – WILL DEAVAN AND HER MOTHER-IN-LAW EVER GET ALONG? DO YOU THINK ARMANDO WILL REFRAIN FROM ANY FURTHER PDA AFTER THE INCIDENT AT THE RESTAURANT? SHOULD BRITTANY DELETE HER SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES OR TAKE DOWN PICTURES THAT COULD BE DEEMED INAPPROPRIATE? DO YOU BELIEVE ARIELA WILL STAY IN ETHIOPIA?
