The pressure of being on TV is multifaceted. Working in any sector of the entertainment industry comes with many complications, including issues of self-esteem. Seeing one’s self on TV each week can be counterproductive to a person’s attempts at self-love.
Such was the experience of Jack Luby from Below Deck Mediterranean. Jack revealed that watching himself back in each Below Deck Med episode combined with the pressures of the job made him unhappy with the way he looked.
So, he took to changing that. Jack started hitting the gym. The results speak for themselves, but Jack was happy to speak on the results as well.
Jack’s year of fitness: “I feel … completely different”
Jack spoke with The Messenger about his fitness journey, revealing, “I feel like a new human mentally, physically and self-confidence-wise after going out of my comfort zone and accomplishing all these goals and doing all these competitions and coming out the other side.” Jack revealed that leaving Below Deck Med was a big help for him.
“I look at myself on the show, and I can’t even relate to that person anymore. It’s really weird,” he explained. “I feel and look completely different. I’ve just spent the past year just training, working out, eating healthy and just trying to get a good mental mindset. When you’re a chef working on a yacht on a long charter, there’s rarely any time to look out after yourself.”
As for where he’s at now, Jack shared, “My self-confidence is a lot higher. I think I’ve got a lot more self-esteem,” he said. Jack continued: “I look at myself on the show, and I’m not happy with how I look. I think a lot of people can relate to that … When I’m not working, it’s very easy for me to stay calm and stay focused and not go down the wrong path.”
Below Deck Mediterranean continues Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
