Since Summer House Season 1, fans have been on the rollercoaster ride that is Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula’s relationship. Between Kyle’s constant flirting, Peter Pan syndrome, and Amanda’s down-to-earth attitude, there was no way I was taking bets on this couple making it. But they proved me wrong as they continued to date for seasons and finally tied the knot. They first met when Amanda was an overnight guest at the shared house. Who knew she’d be a permanent fixture?
Communication Is Key
The duo had their fair share of ups and downs throughout the years, which included Kyle cheating on Amanda in 2018, right before their engagement. The Season 8 premiere has shown Amanda and Kyle having issues. They aren’t communicating; he is stressed with work, and she wants kids. So naturally, they are taking their frustrations out on one another in a not-so-healthy way.
The premier already showed Kyle venting to his roommate, Paige DeSorbo, sharing, “All these pressing questions that it’s not just producers and the audience asking, it’s our friends, it’s our family. What’s next?”
Amanda has also made her stance clear when talking with the girls. Each one had their own idea of what era they were in, with Amanda noting, “I might be in my no patience era, for Kyle specifically.” Even a night at the fair turned icky when Kyle professed he wanted to hang out more but then went on a carnival ride with an oversized banana. Something definitely got lost in translation.
The Don’t See Eye to Eye
Kyle admitted to People that he was not seeing “eye to eye” with his wife when the cameras started rolling, telling readers, “I’m not going to lie about it, when we went into the summer, we weren’t in a bad place, but we definitely weren’t really seeing eye to eye on a number of things, like the balance between work and our personal lives.”
The sneak peek of the season shows Amanda and Kyle having a major showdown on the beach where it looks as if the Loverboy founder is sweeping his wife’s voice under the rug, or sand in this case. While we don’t exactly know what the fight is about just yet, it didn’t look like a comfortable conversation.
Before getting married, we are all told we have to have a difficult conversation about some real deal breakers like children and finances. But Amanda and Kyle are very clearly on two different paths when it comes to starting their family. The graphic designer shared, “There’s a reason that I come back to the house every year and it is to spend time with people other than Kyle. Over the winter, I ended up taking a pregnancy test. And I feel like ever since, we haven’t been in a really good place. Taking that test really made us start to think about like what’s next for us. And we’re not ready.”
Amanda Is Comfortable Alone
The former man-child is really worried that he isn’t on the same team as his wife. And honestly, he should be. Amanda seems happier than a clam to be doing things on her own, away from him. It’s his own fault since, for years, he wanted to keep doing his own thing. In the end, she finally gave up. I can’t say I blame her. Kyle even joked over shared cotton candy that they were “the anti-attached-at-the-hip couple.”
But Amanda wasn’t going to take the blame, making sure to point out that he spends so much time in his home office, noting, “I’m home, and I’m taking care of the dogs, and I’m watching TV, so I’m fine.” I can see why Kyle would want his wife to run and greet him at the door, but she learned this behavior from him.
Two years in their marriage and it seems neither know how to communicate their needs to one another. Between running a startup business, filming for multiple reality TV shows, and being IG influencers, these two have a lot of muck to sort through. If they don’t start making time for their marriage, they are going to find it harder to get back on track further down the line. God knows we don’t need another major breakup to hit the Summer House mansion.
