Travis Kelce can do it all — even hosting a game show. The NFL legend, known for winning three Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs, has signed on to host Amazon Prime Video’s new series, Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity?
Prime Video announced that Travis has signed on to host 20 episodes of the Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? spinoff. Each episode will feature one adult contestant who will work together with a room of celebrities from “stage, screen, and sports” to answer 11 questions pulled from the “elementary curriculum.”
“They are not competing against the stars … they’re enlisting their help and, in some cases, can even ‘cheat’ off of them,” a press release said. “And on the final question, worth $100,000, the contestant selects one celebrity to discuss the answer with before locking in. The final question is always at the 6th-grade level.”
Travis is excited to host his first game show…
Although Travis rose to fame by way of the Kansas City Chiefs, this isn’t his first time in front of the cameras. The tight-end had a dating show in 2016 called Catching Kelce. Now, with him jumping into hosting, he’s fulfilling a long-time dream. “I grew up loving game shows, and I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very first one with Are You Smarter than a Celebrity?” he said in a statement.
“The original show is a great success, so to be bringing a new format with everyone’s favorite celebrities to the screen, will definitely be entertaining. I’m just happy to be on the hosting side of the equation here and excited to see how these famous faces keep up.”
Lauren Anderson, head of AVOD originals unscripted and targeted programming, commented on the news, adding, “Travis has proven to be an incredible talent on and off the field.”
Barry Poznik, General Manager of MGM Alternative, the show’s production company, noted the network couldn’t be more excited to add “the ultimate class clown” to the show’s “new, loud twist on the format.”
