Our favorite sinners and saints are back after a long winter. Last fans saw Jennifer Affleck and Zac Affleck, the aspiring doctor, convincing his wife to move to New York City for medical school. Jen was hesitant about giving up her MomTok life all for the whims of a husband she already financially supported. Now, Season 2 is showing some major changes for the couple that The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives fans didn’t see coming.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 2 Episode 1: Why did Jen Affleck choose to separate from her husband?

Jen is on her own after telling producers, “It’s been a few months of straight hell. Currently, we are separated.” The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star has moved back to Utah after following Zac Affleck to Arizona and settling into the single life. Jen is steadfast in making changes to how she lets Zac treat her. She tells cameras, “I was pretty firm about us being separated so I can figure out what I need and just what is best for our relationship. For me to fight for this marriage, I need to feel he is putting my needs before his.”

As the conversation started, Zac noted he was in therapy. He then adds, “So I’m here letting you live your life the way you want so you can be happy.” Now, I hope the phrasing is just off because the idea that he is letting her do anything is abhorrent. Jen catches the passive-aggressive attitude, telling cameras, “For so long, I think he really thought his feelings were more important. Within the Mormon church, it’s very expected for women to be submissive to their husbands. But for me, whether this helps me become a stronger member of the church or maybe turn away from the church, I think in order for this marriage to work, we have to be equals.”  It is clear Jen has found her voice, but it might be at the cost of her marriage.

Zac made an effort to come to Utah to chat with his wife. He brought flowers and even cut off his surfer boy hair. But can a man brought up in the patriarchy really change overnight? This is what he claims. Zac is no longer attending church and even agreed to try ketamine therapy with his wife. Zac starts the conversation by saying, “I know I’ve messed up. The way I treated you, no matter what you had done, those things should have never been said, and I have to live with that the rest of my life.” Dramatic yet effective, Zac. “I want to prove to you that I love you and I am a good husband. I want to fight for our marriage, and that’s why I’m here.”

In his confessional, Zac opened up, noting, “After Vegas, it felt like the whole world was against us. And wanted us to get a divorce. I had so many regrets about how I acted and how things had gone down. I definitely feel like there is still a lot of work to do.” During the tense conversation, Zac also hinted about possibly moving back into the home, but Jen suggested they keep the Arizona house for now, which sent a clear signal.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives fans think Jen Affleck will be duped

However, Secret Lives of Mormon Wives fans remember how cruel he was to his wife during Season 1. Zac raged texted Jen while in Las Vegas, saying, “Seriously, I don’t want to hear one more time about your heart. Start taking accountability for your actions and for the situations you put yourself in. “You’re a grown woman, it doesn’t matter your intentions. You were there, and that’s the image you portray of yourself, family, church etc. Everyone you represent on this platform.” Zac then added, but was cut off, “The fact that we’re even having this conversation is sad. Realize how dumb you …”

Even though Zac might be putting in the work, Season 2 showed him slipping up on more than one occasion. As the episodes go on, Zac is forced to bite his tongue every time Jen shuts him down. He was also given immersion therapy by MomTok while at Jessi Ngatikaura’s Halloween party. They reenacted a Chippendales dance on Jen as Zac once again stewed on his emotions. So while no one is wishing anyone a divorce, at times it looks as if Jen would be better off cutting ties.

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is available to stream on Hulu.
